Oliver Cromwell, (from his death mask in Warwick Castle), My impression as to what Cromwell actually looked like, A little go with oils too,(there aren't many paintings of him),I guess the death mask is the nearest possible true likeness....Anyway hope you like the picture....Jack.

You made him look like a saint, Jack. He appears filled with compassion. Must have done a very good turn for ya in the very long ago.

Pat 1940, thanks for your reply, this was inspired by Eighty+ really, after looking at his drawings,I thought I would like to try a portrait for a change, and not one from my imagination, the nearest model I could find was the death mask of Cromwell in Warwick Castle,a plastercast of his real face,so I imagine that to be the best possible likeness of the real man,it was interesting looking up the history...thanks for looking Pat.....Jack.

gxhpainter, Thanks for your reply,Cromwell was a very religious man apparently, and everything he did was religion motivated, when he died he was buried with much ceremony, but when the royalists came back to power they exhumed the body, had him hung in chains at Tyburn, and then beheaded his body, his head was diplayed on a spike,as a warning to those who would plot against the royalty, it made interesting reading, thanks for looking.....Jack

Great to see you back, Jack! What an interesting take and even more interesting bringing a death mask to life. It was a fascinating historical period, but be careful of men who have their portrait done with a sword in one hand and a Bible in the other. :D

Mr D Akey, Hello D, He was very religious but far from a saint,he did many dastardly deeds ,lots of crimes against humanity, his" Reign " didn't last long though.....I havent been on recently due to my wireless connection to the internet going off,I have gotten around the problem using a USB wireless plug in( Belkin) that I used to use on my old computer that didnt have the wireless transmitter built in, cant fathom out the problem with the built in transmitter its just dead, and its never done that before,(And thats what the man said when his donkey died,( Its never done that before).......Thanks for looking D..NIce to see you on here mate.....Jack.

Hello ScottF, Nice to see you Scott, I saw your ancient dwellings, when I was having a quick look through, really great picture that one is,love the contrasty shadows, very true looking, excellent bit of artwork, sorry I didnt reply immediately, but didnt know how long the radio link was going to last, but it does appear to be okay now, using a USB plug in unit,so I am able to do longer replies today, anyway good to see your still going strong with the artwork ,thanks for coming in Scott, ....Jack.

Stark, well captured in it's simplicity of the background which directly focused my attention to a face of character. Flat and two dimensional in a artistic complementing way.
