View Full Version : Figure Study Dark Skin - My first gallery post

Pretty sure this is my first gallery offering - decided to try a bit of regular sketching again to help keep me sane and creative juices flowing.

This is a quick oil tonal study based on a photo from Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblet p104. Haven't done much with dark skin tones before so this is a new challenge.

Any suggestions and critique much appreciated. Anyone else got ideas on colour palette? This guys skin is quite rich and chocolatey and I don't feel I quite hit the mark...

Thanks for looking!

You certainly got many right tones here and the figure emerges well in this original style too.
Skin, either lighter or darker, is reflective anyway and influenced by the surroundings, so the basic hue and tone go on changing at any angle.
An hard game to catch and You're on the right track.

I think it is fantastic. I like the large quick brush strokes and the anatomy is great.
