Looking grand lad.

I had earlier thought to criticize your Night Watch thinking that you had created a fairly distracting tangent with all those spears crossing at a single point off to the right. But I knew you look at details like that so I went and looked at Rembrandt's version.

By gum, the ol' maestro (him, no yew, lad, you're a right embryo compared to 'im, ye are) did something that would not be considered good compositional design -- unless he did it for a reason, like an vague allusion to a compass needles and latitude and longitude lines perhaps, seein' as they're all aboot merchant shipping and burgers, and not to mention they're all a bunch o' hot doggers judgin' from this paintin'. Rembrandt was no one for little mistakes, especially in a masterwork like this, and so there had to be a reason for it. And that's the best I could come up with. Remmy the Super Old stopped writin' me e-mails, so I suppose I'm left to speculate.

And I like the other stoof ye been paintin, all yer tributes and so on. Go man go.

I'm afraid I do not recognize the woman, Mr Ploos. A right smart portrait though.

And did anyone notice that with Renoir, he had arthritis in his hands so bad they were permanently fists. And his lads had to put things into them and take them out. How do you like that for determination to paint regardless of physical circumstances, eh? Makes me admire him all the more, even though he was not my favorite Impressionist based on his pictures, he now jumped in the ranking owing to what he overcame.

Among all these new nice attractions, I mostly admired the young portrait by Giovanni Bellini (1433-1515; son of Jacopo Bellini, a famous painter too), You painted wonderfully and Mr. Bean, although probably a little stuffed with some fatty bacon, is a is perfect drawing and portrait.
Here's a link to Giovanni Bellini masterpieces where You may find this and some other portraits and paintings, if You wish:http://www.google.it/search?q=giovanni+bellini+pittore&hl=it&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=UZV_UbvkGYaHtAaVqoHwCA&ved=0CDoQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=929

Well, I'm glad to see you're following Tiziano (Titien) too, because he died at over 90 years old that, with today's extended lives, would mean (obviously by enjoy painting as you do) You're going to go far beyond the 100 years target, say 120 (so I wish You at least). Looking forward to see the finished version.
Not to be pedantic, but since You're learning Italian now, You would rather read "spaghetti" on the menu (gh followed by e or i is pronounced g like in gear) otherwise while "spagetti" would sound spajetty. :o;)

Looks like a place of great interest and lots to do. I can only imagine the sounds and the feel of the climate as well. I would think you'd be in tune with that kind of energy having been living in or near Brighton Beach which is sort of a resort.

Well, I don't know about you, but I think you would surely blow their minds at the festival were you to pull out your iPad and start sketching them. What would they make of it, you suppose?

You may want to early on in your painting process make a layer with a daub of black or whatever dark will be your darkest dark in the picture. You won't use it in the painting, it's just so you let all the colors in the piece know they can go way dark and not so timid. That way you have somethin' of a depth gauge so yer no pilotin' yer deep water vessel into the shallows, if ye catch me drift, lad. You would likely get to where you got to only quicker.

As to the pic of John, is 'e goin' steady wif Medusa? The hair is, treated like a punk rock star -- all platinum and sooch like (like yerself a wee bit). Ye saw MisterPaint's Medusa painting, didn't you? Do ye no think they would make a proper couple?

Aye lad. Fires. Smoke em if ye got em. Well we got em and they're smokin'. Fortunately I am not in those risk areas, but the smoke drifts for miles and miles.

Fires came close to me neighborhood once in recent memory (Not my home but those in the nearby hills). You should have seen how the fire department made that fire cut the lawns like a gardener. They let it burn off the scrub brush but not the homes -- for the most part. Some homes were lost, but comparatively few and those early on in the fires which started some miles off, and the blaze went on for a week or so. Could have been far far worse. Fire fighting is an art around here. But it's the real deal and people get killed working the line sometimes when the wind shifts.

One year in my high school days, when the fires got close and the winds just so, little flecks of white ash rained down like snow.

Yeah, I still see morons tossing lit cigarettes out their car through the risk areas. Blows my mind how careless some people are. It's like they have not a care for anything bigger than them.

Our new government and Prime Ministre Enrico Letta, is apparentrly backed by most of the old parties (I would feel some discomfort to have certain guys behind or to rely on their support as pillars), so I can't say for sure who "brusinni" is, not even listening to the presumable sound with the uncertain phonology English has, anyway I like this new approach of Yours to color drawing!

I see. You know, "Brusinni" could vaguely sound as either Berlusconi (more or less bayrloosconee to have an English read it better) or Bersani (bayrsahnee), but the two guys, as well as Monti or anyone else of the too many still surviving bosses of various ranks, are all more or less together pulling each one in his direction the government, so we'll see what will eventually come out. Maybe Letta can be able to sail well and long enough with such treacherous "friendly" winds and gusts and avoid the rocks of the opposing Five Stars and some few other left and regional "revanchistes". So far he had a good start and programme. We'll see. What's for sure is that the sooner they'll cancel public funding to th parties and cut their wages, privilieges and reimbursements the better it is. Hard to find great politicians anywhere in Europe these days ...:(

Not really, but what scares me the most is the stupidity and we have plenty of it here and, unfortunately, among too many European politicians and bureaucrats, an absolutely dangerous quality, no matter how much honest they are. The Weimar Republic syndrome and what illogically followed from an economical standpoint, opened the way to Hitler and pretty soon to the IIWW. There must be a reason why only thr Romans and Charlemagne, to some extent, were able to really keep Europe under a political unity. Not even Napoleon succeeded least the Prussians.

Isn't Venice just the place, Mr Ploos? It's flippin' surreal. I loved it though I never painted there. Lots of video though. Would that I had more time around those canals. Was there the last couple days of the last millennium. They must have dyed their water turquoise. The fog at night was real though I'm fairly certain. Bought me son 'is first moon river from a fold up bar on the street in Venice when he was 16 yo. Probably wasn't 'is first. But t'was 'is first legit one wit me.

Go Mr Ploos! Yeah, the pad you may want to use a smaller pencil tip on perhaps a toothier paper, just to give it a more drawn feel. You'll find your way aboot tho, I'm quite sure if ye practice a bit.

limey-g, it's from pesticides. There has been an upswell of opposition to it so much that Europe just recently banned these substances. Not sure if that includes Canada and the USA or wherever else. Great Bus sketches Mr 80+ and why does one of the ballerinas have a veil over her face ?

I think since Mr Ploos is from touristy Brighton, it might be one of those stand up paintings where you can go stick your face from behind through the hole so that you can be in the scene. You could be the ballerina in this one.

Me, I've got to go find the one with Popeye and Olive Oyl on the beach.

Mr Ploos, I think you are so much going to make 100, and with Caesar's pull with the Roman Legions, you're a shoe-in for promotion to Centurion in the Caesarian Section, withoot a doot, lad.

Hoot lad, you're to be transfigured in certain circles as Sir Ralph Fellow, the British dub of Rafaello.

What a marvel you've created. Amazing detail and expressions all over the place.
It's as if you're sayin': "The bus stops here. . . now check oot me sketches."

I think that may well have been what some of the old artists done - gone oot an' sketched, later to use them in their paintin's. . . that is until the muckety mucks got wind of these group shots and put their mistresses and sooch like in as a lark.

I particularly like all the blokes pointin' to tha girl what's doin' a "Hallelujah" in the lower right. The mind boggles as to what they're sayin' among themselves aboot 'er.

Anyway, fine work lad. Yer royally coverin' all the bases wif yer soobjects.

Yes, well, I wanted to put the image in Mr Ploos' thread, and since I was fresh out of fig leaves, I used text -- great BIG text as a way of compensating for Michelangelo's uncharacteristic depiction of small hands and feet and what not, which is the direct opposite of the heroic scale he employed in his sculptures of his action figures like David.

I wonder if this was a symbolic comment about the clerics -- being powerful as a collective, but not individually strong or virile. I wouldn't put it passed him to have been making comment this way. But at this point in the story, Eve had not yet arrived on the scene, so that could have changed things in later murals.

And yes, Caesar your brush has a wood handle in this picture.:D

Well eighty maybe you should make a wooden leg before you use the chain saw, just in case :eek::eek:
Most of my wood for my woodworking projects comes out of my own bush where I pick out trees that are on their last legs and bring them down with the chain saw.
I have a friend who has his own mill, so he rough cuts my lumber into my sizes that I use and of course after that I stack it outdoors till the moisture content is low enough for use.
This usually takes a couple of years.
There is something special about using your own lumber to build projects
Have a great weekend .

Well I'm beginning. Was busy this last year or so collecting wood from felled trees and taking some classes. Also was busy collecting chisels and building a working area in my garage. Wish me luck.

Owing to limited space, I'm attaching a utility item I constructed on wheels for the purposes of storage and for being a big ol' easel. Rather optimistic, but what the heck. I never worked really big, but didn't because of not having a decent easel. And with them being so expensive, I just designed and made something. Not particularly pretty, but functional.

Also built (not pictured) a good stout bench for carving. The ruddy wood shrank so bad that even though it was all nailed in good, there are huge gaps in between the slats. I can plug them, but that was my first lesson in using un-dried wood.

Oh, I realized there was an underpainting of a tree in the photo. Was just playing around. Nothing came of it as it was going in a different direction. And beside the stool, unattached, would be a taboret for my palette and jars and brushes -- also moveable.

limey-g

Nice work area, I to also work in my double garage which is a good size, so apart for my workbench which is a fixture and my lathe many of my other machines are mobile and can be pushed out of the way when not needed.
Look forward to seeing some of your work.

05-28-2013, 12:11 PM
The flowers have a sort of Matisse quality? Not sure about who did what in that genre, but it looks bold and sure, regardless of your memory of them. It's more about the rapport you have going with your virtuous canvas.

And speaking of virtuosity on canvas, any of the Expressionists ain't got nuffin' on your expressionistic pic of this 'ere lass. Nifty work there, Mr Ploos.

So here's a link to have some fun with -- a bus ride into a wacky side of town. Give it a go. Take the Ploos Boos South and East on the continent. Steer clear of certain unsavory visions mind. Some are out and out like extreme bleeding psyches (and I don't mean 'bleeding' in the British way). . . But some of the genre in the mid-range is rather exciting and super innovative. Moon River up if ya got 'em lad. . . it can be a hard ride. And the shocks on this ere transport need replacin'.

The vase of budding flowers is a lovely representation of spring, so bright and colorful. Cheery and delightful! :D

Your above quote made me think of you on a well traveled bus that pipes in mood music for it's passengers. As the
bus continues to a stop to pick up an awaiting rider, this particular song might be heard coming from the opened
door of the idling but anxious to continue on coach. There is no inflated boarding ticket charge for the tune. ;)
