threw a penny in my hat , all the sketch'es are quick rough's only done

for pratice to keep the eye and hand working as one :eek: only 3 times

have I let them have the sketch only cos they kept insisting drives me

Hi J Witt not sure what to say i always sit in the front so i can look back up the Bus so i can nearly see them all had a few asking if i had

That is on about changing some laws in the magna carta as there where only 15 I started sketching of the 15 it breaks down to about 6 who do all the talking the other's are just there for the beer I relized later u won't 6 pads on the go that way u can keep pace with changing face's

that your most interesting and well rendered personalities have
now decided to take other means of transportation. :eek: I dare not
care to even consider riding the bus alone, have become quite
accustomed to their uniquely artful appearances while riding this
lively transport. I anticipate that even more fresh faces will be

Your expressive charicatures just reminded me of a pencil sketch I made
of one of my high school teachers. I quietly drew his likeness while
attending his class, then presented it to him when it was completed. He
surprisingly was so taken with the portrait that he had it displayed in a
school hall glass case normally used for student notices. I guess he liked
it! :eek:

I always have to check in to see who you have added to your sketch pad
collection ... quite engaging! The little girl on the steps sketch reminded
me of when I first discovered that, as a toddler my little legs now had the
ability to move me up and down the set of stairs in my home ... allllllllll by
myself and what a happy discovery it was. :)

Look at you go 80+, especially considering the speed limit is 65 here. I got a speeding ticket the other day and while the cop said I was going 80+ he knocked it down to 79. Mine is not the Master's collection though, it was the Bastard's collection (me being said bastard, but I digress).
So in honour of this mercy, I shall call you 79. You don't mind me calling you 79 do you? Cause this art you're doing is obviously making you younger and younger.

I'm very impressed by your sketches. And some are a wee bit stronger than others I think, as always seems to be the case with sketches, but they are overall holding a respectable level. You've got a good chronicle of where your eye goes.

One thing that you seem to be doing is looking for the portrait resemblance somewhat which is great. It's also kinda cool if you show it to the individuals. They're flattered and it's an open door if people then wish to speak to you or visa-versa. My dad was of the kind who would speak to everybody, but he wasn't an artist. Me, on the other hand, I never really showed my sketches to the subject. I was more private that way. Just thinking aloud here.

But I would suggest a couple other things to look at:

1) you may want to begin thinking in terms of paintings. And should you want to, you may want to also use sketching as a way to open up your canvas strategy, setting your light and dark pattern and how the eye moves around the canvas, especially when you get into the more full figure studies. It'll help you when you go to painting.

2) You may also consider developing a formula for how you approach a head or a figure. I'm not saying you haven't got a loose formula, but it's never a bad thing to consider what marks and nature of marks best describe a head and figure. I think the advantage to this is that you can seriously improve on your images by making them work as your own rather than being held accountable for each little thing that you are looking at. You're not a camera after all.

Anyway, aside from those comments, the energy of your work is awesome and you are really looking well and getting to where you can get it down on (virtual) paper very well indeed. Well done you!

D Akey 1st things 1st I'm flattered by your comments thank you
from someone who's had a art training, you can understand that the bus
sketches at the start where hard to do with the bumping along but after
the first 600 I now find it easy as have leant how to draw in a Stagecoach
:D:D but looking through my art books come across one by a Ron Tiner
called Figure Drawing Without a Model must have got some time ago
but must have bunged it in the book shelve and forgot it but on reading it he insists a sketch pad is a must, which I take everywhere anyway but he said get out and draw people sitting walking ..whatever but draw them that's why I'm trying to draw them outside the mall as I got slung out from inside went inside as was too windy but I think doing Sargent's and holbein's works
and now Rubens has helped made the eye's focus more , I also did'nt like to show my sketch'es as they were only roughs done for practice but some people insist so it don't worry me now as to a formula to drawing I changed style completely now I loosely
scrible in a rough block or outline then the detail thats why the ears sometimes float

I share the book page opinion and You certainly treasured it!
Paper and pencil are the cheapest art tools (nowadays at least), just like the football (soccer for transatlantic mates) ball is when it comes at sports, therefore anyone may have a lot of fun with both (and get gifted with them). ;)

Looking great, SN. And even though not all of them look classically proportioned, they all capture the individual who got caught up in your web of intrigue. . . visually speaking that is. . . It's like you saw the bit about them that jumped out at you, a sort of impression and that's what you nailed. It sort of appears you have been sketching qualities as much as anything else. Lesser artists are stuck with what they merely look like. You do that too, but there's far more to be had.

By the way, regarding that quote you posted from that art teacher/author, so glad you dug that book out. It's a comment I can get behind every time. It's about the artist's journey and if they are on it, that's the aim.

And you realize you teach something every time you put pencil to paper or post a picture. We're all teaching each other all the time.

Nice group of drawings. Keep up the great work! Bet it passes the time on the bus, eh? I always found carrying my sketch pad filled in the holes in me day quite nicely.

My dear 79, there's a quality present of perfection that I'm not altogether sure you want to lose. Evolve, sure. But don't lose that quality of essence that reflects what you get from the bus sitters. . . One can always take the images farther and render them differently, but you now have a great quality of everyday people seen from where you're sitting in your drawings. It's pretty real. Just another stop along the bus line.

These are really good. You are definitely on to expressions on people's faces. And you have a great mental view of body proportions which is where many of us have problems. Keep it up. Really grand to see such art!

yeah D Akey, I dived down the rabbit hole and there they were

hiding was'nt to bad bit too far away but had to be quick before they

changed back as its only lately they've graced us with their presance ok :D

bus you have to hold your arms out in front to act as springs dodgy when they corner you can end up on the floor as your not holding on only 2 seats with corners so u can wedge in with the legs braced then its not to bad

Hi thanks Katie Coops,... well today I started with good intent :D

looked at s.s starter messed around with it decided the canvas size was the

poblem so had a go at a diff; size :eek::eek: now I've got two, confused

got out at 1.oc :eek: the London to Brighton Bike ride, had to walk 1/2

a mile to get a bus done one skertch at the mall felt knackerd so went

home and went to sleep woke up at 8 and bunged the bus sketch'es in ok
