View Full Version : Canal Beagle

This is based on a photo I took one calm afternoon on the Canal Beagle, about an hour from here by boat. (Think of Darwin´s voyage.) One of my first efforts with ArtRage was based on this same photo, entitled "Shipwreck" (7 February 2008). Since discovering how well the technical pen and thin, dry oils seem to work for me, I decided to have another go. Hope you enjoy it.

Magnificent! Big claps! There's something reminding me of Edouard Manet style, Imaybe the flat colored areas rather than either a fully impressionistic or classical approach to the lighting and definition od the different parts ...

Very lovely :) Could you tell us a little about your technique? You mentioned using very thin oils. Does that have to do with the thinner setting in ArtRage? I must admit I always leave mine on 33% because I have no idea how to use it

Sorry to bring this to the top again, but I can´t leave it without saying how much I appreciate your comments! Thanks Michel, Canard, Rick, gz, damaso, and javier for stopping by and for your kind words!

Canard: try the preset "Thin and dry" for the oils.

You know what's silly? I didn't even know those presets existed until just now when I found them in the View menu. I've got stuff to play around with today :D Thanks for the tip, Scott! And mighty fine gallery you have too :)

Excellent painting. I like how the lighter part of the water is like an arrowhead pointing to the ship as if creating a directional line to pull our focus to the ship. Interesting.
