Less than 2% of the original prairie that covered the plains states of North America exists today. What little that is left exists in small preserves. (http://www.prairieplains.org/marie_ratzlaff_prairie_preserve.htm) It is my hope to visit one of these preserves someday soon.

I've tried to use a mix of colors to indicate the diversity of plant life contained in the grasses.

This is awesome Al! The colors explode in this and give it a never ending depth. Love the long shadows - they make the mind explore the painting! I've missed ya! Hopefully I will be back up and running again soon. Fantastic painting!

An artist and a poet you are to have integrated both a boldly expressive
painting with a poignant message of earth's bounty, how delicate the
balance is and the care that must be taken to preserve these gifts. I
agree, extremely inspirational and well painted! :)
