This is my feeble attempt at a brass still life. The best part is the worn wooden handle. I think the brass could be a lot sharper - maybe there is a better way to blend the highlights without using the knife tool set to blur?? Any suggestions?

I think you've done a fabulous job. You could try markers for metals as they tend to do them very well... use the blending marker preset to blend. :):)

hi steverino365, this is good, uve nicely achieved the effect..:).
what would make it look better is the tonal contrast. metals...brass, coper, silver etc get the colors and tones from the surroundings, so there is no definite rule to paint them, just look for what they are reflecting and capture that. in life painting sessions, its always good to place a metallic object under an interesting environment or close to anything that will make it reflect that object.
youve to see and paint, it all depends on the situation and condition at that particular moment. thats y they are little tricky to paint, i repeat, no rule, all depends on the situation of the moment...:).
if you allow me i can show you an example thru a couple of my paintings, by posting them here in this thread.

cheers.

sure and you are most welcome..:).
im sharing few of my artrage paintings here for you, for an idea about textures, materials, surfaces, reflections etc. you really dont have to agree with what ive done, as things are subjective in art. i just hope these help a little..:)
they show varied conditions, light and mood and all that effecting various objects in a different way. you can read my previously written comment and match that with these paintings.

good day.

Now I understand what you mean about colorful objects near the metal that show colored reflections. My paining was of the actual untouched scene. Next time I will try creating a more interesting composition with some color.

Your work is wonderful and lush with color. Very realistic yet better than real life. I love your style. I will visit your web site to see more of your work.

Thank you for the inspiration.:D:D
