Another image that goes with a story I am working on right now. This is part of a series of images of a countryside on a Far World.

What an dramatic environment. It's very well realized between the choices of colors and atmosphere and it's just simply the kind of place I would love to walk around and explore. . . even as a mere tourist.

Hits the mark. Very nice. Oh, what's that stair step business on the right? This is the second time I've seen such a thing in paintings and still haven't got a handle on what it does.

One of the things I loved about illustrating was the opportunity to do research. The down side of that was that sometimes I would get lost in the research and not get to the painting till late as the deadline drew near. But I loved researching old books and National Geographics and so on for that reason. :):):):):)

This is awesome, so beautiful. I like how the fog seems to drift in, passing by the castle :)

Sandy, Barn, Paul, Coops - Thank you for the great comments.
DAkey - What does the stairway evoke? It leads in from the right, and out down the hill. Doesn't it make you wonder where it goes?! That's why I put it there - To make you wonder. Actually, The scene will rotate in both directions in upcoming pieces. It might answer a question or two.
Ev, Jon, Oriane, Sketch - Thanks so much!!!!

Nice fantasy landscape and only kind of semi fantasy. I'm glad you answered that question about the stairs. I thought they were an overflow for the stream but now I see they are a path to somewhere and it does add some mystery to that misty castle.

That dark wall over the stream and the dark horizontal lines on the right side really slow the eye down so you focus on the water wheel and house and only later see the misty castle. Nice work.

Hope the story project goes well. Is the audience early teen and younger?
