A new landscape painting, from scratch - with a caveat...I wanted to include a reference pose from my favorite sculpture at LACMA, here in Los Angeles:

Jean-Jacques Feuchère - Satan (circa 1836)

I'll post a version progression in the next day or so...

Cheers,

André

Although different in the poem's description, this is possibly the scene Dante and Virgil would have seen towards the end of the first Cantica of the Divine Comedy (the one concerning the Hell).
Great tonal painting indeed!

This is quite stunning and a remarkable painting, vfxsup64! I just love the way you did the sky...it's stunning! I'm not into demons but this definitely gives the feel of being dark and surreal.....nice job!

Thanks everybody for the comments and notes - I really appreciate it.

Please find below some image progressions ranging from the first layout to the finished piece.

For the third image, I added some atmospheric rays, flares and some selective vignetting for a more photographic effect - using Nuke, a compositing package. This is the kind of thing I might do for a concept piece on a visual effects project in order to help give a more cinematic feel.

Thanks again!

André
