Morgan Freeman just reminded me about "Red" from The Shawshank Redemption. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this picture.

Here's one I just finished. AR4. Anne Hathaway.
This is just a screenshot, using the stenciltool as a ruler to make a "watermark". The whole picture (sketch to finished) was done using the chalk tool.

hello Hanzz,

it's a great journey to view through this thread again and your latest works are as great as usual. I like some of your screen capture on the Artrage work interface and your work process. It kind of refreshing my mind on how to use it again (I hope)

I especially like the paintings of Leslie Nielsen and Anne Hathaway :) Even though I haven't watched a movie for years. The last time I watched her in movie was Devil Wears Prada, but I really like the latest short hair look of her as well as I knew she was in a new movie Les Misérables. I watched the actual Les Misérables play back in 1986.

Hope to see more of your works in AR4 :)

Been away from here for a while.

Much of my time is taken up for a big exposition in my country of 80 of my works in the European Cartoon Centre.I am very honoured to it.
The major part of the expo are Artrage paintings. The other are done in Inkist and 'real world' drawings...
(website here : http://www.ecc-kruishoutem.be/index_ENG.htm )

I am now very busy doing a children's colour ,games ,and puzzle + comic book for a comical duo.
The faces are them as a caricature.

Hello All.... After 6 years turned back to digital... To find out I forgot all there was that I used to play with.
Just ordered the upgrade to version 6, it looks like I'm going to have to re-learn the whole program !
So it could be a while before you'll see any posts of me ....
Thought I'd let those who'll remember me know that I'm back !

This is very exciting news Hanzz! So glad you (and your lady also hopefully) are well and ready to attack ArtRage to bend it to your distorted will to the enjoyment and delight of all.

I would think that the learning curve will be a whole lot less steep this time compared with the first time you learned it. You already have your moves down. But let us know what you think of any new features they may have added over the last 6 years.

You can be like a human time capsule astronaut.

hanzz
10-13-2020, 10:08 PM
Here's a first, done with the pastel tool. I am still waiting to be able to download AR6. (payed by bank transfer, that's why I have to wait)
Still no luck with my sticker brush tool, so I did this in the soft pastel. hope you like it.
As you can see, I have to get back in the flow.
Got a bit rusty over the years... But it 'll come back soon !

It may seem like you're rusty to you, but on the audience side, it looks really well done to me.

You've still got a great sense of caricature like you did at the most practiced point of your doing them before.

But since I'm not really up on present day celebrities, who is she?

I can tell this is going to be a very fun ride watching your creations appear as you get back into it. I can't wait for "your check to clear" so you can get going with the latest version of ArtRage. Plus, I'm most curious about how you're going to integrate the various tools into your workflow. For example, in this one, would you have used the sticker spray for the texture in her jacket? Or were you going to use it for creating a painterly style?

Anyway, welcome back indeed.

Forgot to add.... this is Billy Eilish... If you don't know the bird, never mind, neither do I . I only know she's famous amongst the younger generation..
Just got mail, and I am busy downloading the new version right now. I used one of the standard fur brushes for the jacket. Thanks for the heads up !

I guess that's the trick of it -- to ferret out that iconic expression that really is something of a trade mark -- if the subject has one or more.

This is so Donald Trump. For me there's some definite editorial snap to it, where so much can be read into the expression, particularly if one has followed when he employs it. But it's not leading the viewer to a conclusion about him, unless they already have an opinion about him. If you like him it works as light-hearted. If you disdain him it also works as a lampoon that would satisfy that audience.

Another delightful caricature that makes one rove around the face to enjoy the mechanics of what you've done after that eye-opening first impression.

Certainly looks just like the man. Airbrush is my favourite tool. As for custom brush tutorials - I don't think there any tutorials on how to use it only how to make your own. I have some useful presets I have downloaded.

https://www.steveelliottart.co.uk/artrage

Our own Darkownt has generously provided some brushes also. https://forums.artrage.com/showthread.php?53966-DOs-SquareMess-Brushes-(brushes-6-8-of-8)&highlight=square+mess+brushes

You might find more if you browse the Art Supplies/Download forum.

The cool part of digital is you can save versions. You can save a copy as is, and then try stuff out. I can't imagine you not doing a great job on his threads.

Love the expression. I don't think Charlie ever had a change of expression during his career. So you could put any attire on him all the way back.

Nice "stony" expression, Hanzz. Well done, even in mid-stream.

Pitty the forum is a bit slow in users these days. We knew other times, didn't we..

Indeed we did, Hanzz. People tend to go where people and activity is. When ArtRage started it was unique and captured people's aspirations to do Art in a unique way -- especially for people who had Art on their bucket list. There was excitement around people getting to explore something they had put aside while life priorities got in the way.

Somebody also pointed out that the universe of mobile devices exploded and changed how people interacted. Plus there are a whole lot of programs that appeared on the scene and that thinned the AR user base. AR also switched their aim to the casual user market and since the professional companies collected around Photoshop and so on, the pros had to follow that route as it was how one got hired.

I remember the flag waving discovery of people looking at AR as a personal cause like when the Amiga computer and MAC people were nearly fanatical about building a huge user base. Remember when people were trying on a personal level in getting AR into schools and so forth. And we were all riding high on that wave of enthusiasm. Was a whole lot of fun.

Anyway, glad you're enjoying doing caricatures still. You've always stood out as one of the top artists in the forums.

This latest one is really cool! Very distorted but still clearly the person. Always like a magic act.

Ha! Good one Hanzz.

You really keyed in and exaggerated the lower portion of the head which is particularly distinctive with that lad. I also really like the hair as well. Very smooth curves. That detail gives it that highly polished look of artistry. Another winner.
