Anyone out there in the mood to draw one of his brilliant characters? I know I am and will be posting mine soon!:D

I completely suck at drawing characters but would be willing to give it a shot. The trouble for me would to try and choose :p

Great idea for an art project Alexandra. Being a major LOTR fan I am certainly up for it.

Well, you just KNOW I'll have to take part in this thread, don't you... ;)

Characters on the way!

Peter - I see the Ring as a character in its own right, I don't thing there's any problem in having that in here. :D

Picaso - I love the composition of your Gimli pic. Very nice!

The protagonist:D:D

:eek:Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

A fascinating challenge .... I think I'll try since I am a fan of Tolkien.;)
Very lovely works Picaso and Peter

Alexandra

Oh Peter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The RING. This is fantastically drawn and painted! Well done. :D:D:D You know, I hope someone here draws the only being to be able to handle this entity and laugh. "He's a merry fellow; Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow."

Elfdaughter and Silvy, let's see what you have girls!!!!:D

Here are some familiar souls. :)
(I used Hague's Hobbit and cave as reference, just changed his cloak, face, and clothes. Added the other hobbits, and cave eyes. AR software.)

This was supposed to be a Dryad but when I saw this thread I thought wood elf! and made a few changes... ie the dress is white, less leafy and she is a lot less green and mossy.

Alexandra
10-12-2009, 06:37 AM
Thanks Picaso. You know, I wish that I had spent more time on it. I just threw it together. I had in mind Moria, but it could as well have been the cave of Shelob. I will have to go back and read it again soon so that I can be accurate.
Fraser, that is lovely.

from one of my blending/layer experiments came...........Shelob

Peter Pinckney
10-13-2009, 09:51 AM
and then 2 scenes of Middle Earth............the second is supposed to be Frodo and Sam in Mordor carrying the Burden................you can maybe see why I don't paint the human figure:o:o:o:o

@Fraser................oh yes that is an Elf!!

@Picaso...............that was one of my favourite lines in the movie......great portrayal of an unforgettable character!!

Thanks for the nice comments:):) and thanks to Sandy for starting this thread:):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

Peter, your contributions to this thread are wonderful. Shelob, perfect-Moria-dynamic, and well portrayed. The incline and travel as great as the weight of the burden, poor things. It is not hard to me to see the relationship in this story with burdens of our lives. I must commend you on your work sir. They are beautifully painted.:):):):):)

Haha! Wonderful!

I had a blast with this. I made a key discovery concerning AR. You can blend using "soft light" just like in photoshop. Oh man, I had so much fun. This is such great news! Off to explore the rest of the settings.

Here's my balrog.

Alexandra

Hey, thanks Sketch!
Great painting of Balrog-Gray. I am just learning these effects too.
I am hoping some one catches my riddle and makes an artrage painting of this person.....hint hint. This person is in the book, but was sadly excluded from the film.:(

Gray

Haha! I actually started him (If I'm reading your puzzle correctly) before giving up because the eyes were so out of whack. I'll take another shot at it then.

This fellow I liked he counted as he shot the enemy. My daughter just told me his name, it is Legolas.

Well done Sandy! Legolas was one of my favorite characters. The actor, well need I say more ladies?:o:o:o:o

Sandy Legolas is a dishy young man, I should have found a reference and done him justice. He looks good with blonde or dark hair. I cannot remember what colour eyes he has though.
Caesar, the painting fits well and is done very well as all your creations.
Sandyg.

I really love your painting Sandy-I liked him with the blonde hair. I think in the book he had blonde hair. :) I must go and read it again.

Cesare, this is a wonderful Wizard! I love it.:)
I wish you could draw Galadriel and her mirror for us.:o:D

Looking forward to your Nazgul FreeAlchemist.:)

Cesare, I am so sorry. Anyway to alter the facial features a bit?:)

Caesar
10-15-2009, 10:02 AM
Plastic surgery You mean, Milady? What a brilliant idea! By chance I've got a model who would perfectly fit.;):p I would leave Galadriel hair blonde anyway ...

Alexandra
10-15-2009, 10:12 AM
And whom might be the fortunate model??????
You really amaze me. The shoe's thread, and Coops and Manna-such amazing likeness'. All of them that you have done. Just amazing.:)

Gray

Here's Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo.
Amidst the water grass and old man willow,
Holding flowers fair for the river-daughter
comes the eldest up from the river-water.

Sorry... Makes me realize JRR's real skill. I just can't help the rhymes, I've had Tom Bombadil on my mind for a while now.

I confess I started out painting Glorfindel, thinking "Brilliant" referred to his death against the balrog and subsequent resurrection and hence Frodo's ability to really see him (as a shining figure), even with the ring on, but a friend sorted me out.

This time around, I discovered all textures available. Paint really behaves differently on rough grain paper and on canvas, but somehow I'd never gotten around to trying the canvas setting. I'm such a noob. Ah well, this was fun, if not strictly artistic. Some one with some real artistic skill should try this nut case as well. You really can't go wrong, just make sure he has a feather in his hat, a beard, yellow boots, and a blue jacket. He's a short little man, and that's about the limit of JRR's descriptions. He's meant to be something of an enigma I guess...

Alexandra
10-16-2009, 01:09 AM
Oh Gray, Thank you! I loved Tom in the book-his laughter when holding the ring, no evil had power over him. His strength and love for his love and his love for the land and animals. Well done, and keep at it- you are really good. I am still trying to figure out layers, and textures. Maybe when I grow up I will move to oils. LOL. Nah, I will never grow up.;)

Well done on Gollum, great perspective and colors Sirius!:) Our precious.

Peter, what is wrong with the hand? This is beautiful. I can see your talent is in drawing the figure as well. The layers are beautifully mastered also. I love it!:)

Caesar
10-16-2009, 11:12 PM
This odd company members comprise some of the races Tolkien depicted although it's not referring to any of his books or notes and would probably contrast with his vision where one or two of the races are fundamentally good and evil, independent from how their individuals were raised ....
I added another old drawing too referring to an Elf Lady who curiously remind me Alexandra a little bit ...;):)

Caesar
10-17-2009, 01:01 AM
... what about this Galadriel, dearest Sandra? I hope I didn't disappoint Your expectations! ;):p

Alexandra
10-17-2009, 01:31 AM
Cesare, I don't know where to begin. They are incredible. I must say that I enjoy viewing them. So much expression. I admire your talent and capabilities. The top picture and the woman standing looks like Manna. And you added Galadriel, and said she reminds you of me? Oh, I am so flattered. She is beautiful! Well done Cesare!!! I think these are fine contributions to this thread. A big kiss on the cheek to you my friend!:)

My sketching abilities and anatomy are pretty sad, so I turned this scene into a stained glass window. I hope you enjoy it.:)

'Good evening, little master!' he said, bending down. 'What may you be wanting?'

I saw this project while at work and love this series though my favorite book is the Hobbit and it is all because of Smaug. So I had to come home and sketch him up just for this. I like it so far I think I will actually finish him.

How could I resist? It's the subject of my thesis!

The two characters on the front are Merry (not Sam!) and Théoden. The two on the rear are Elfhelm and Éomer. As you might see, they're taken from the book, instead of the movie.
