Ah...Halloween...witches, ghosts, unexpected sounds, shivers, shrieks, Ray Bradbury stories, shadows with attitude, unexpected silences...

(singing off key) "these are a few of my favorite things..."

I hope to carve out some time to bring a new offering to this thread, but until then, I hope you'll neither bite nor bury me for resurrecting an earlier posting of mine that feels drawn to this dark and unholy place, as though it belongs...(insert sound of sinister laugh here)

09-14-2009, 12:58 PM

10-06-2009, 03:09 PM
Pete the green with the red eyes, really scary, I mean really scary, I bet that was a totally unexpected effect.
Love yours Lee with it's trio of pumkins and that black cat, love the bat, I meant to do a bat outside the window in my picture.
Sandy would love to see the cat if possible.

10-07-2009, 02:41 AM
I love the Neon Halloween pic Lee! :):):)

10-07-2009, 04:48 AM
Dear Sandy and Alexandra, Thank You Both very much,,,,!:)

,,, agree, Peter's Green-Red Thing is soooooo scary!!!!

10-07-2009, 03:50 PM
I hope it is okay Cartoonman if I upload Salem. She is such a halloween baby. She was on her way to the pound. I knew no one would want her because her teeth were just about gone and she was so thin. I have to feed her canned food. Now she is fine and we have enjoyed having her as one of the family.

10-07-2009, 04:26 PM
Alexandra, Salem is an absolute beauty! Truly an homage to Halloween :)

10-07-2009, 07:10 PM
I've never been one for tradition.

Done in AR and a little photoshop to control lighting and color.

10-09-2009, 05:47 AM
Hi Sirius, thank you. We love our pets very much. We had a contractor helping us with repairs one summer. He asked me if I wanted "this cat". He said that if we didn't that he was taking it to the pound.
I looked at my husband with the most pitiful face that I could-ha ha-and he gave in and let us have her. Number six in our pets! Ha ha. Anyway, she had a broken leg that healed crooked, bad teeth, but we groomed her, fed her canned food and had her spayed. She sleeps in the basket, and is still so fast that she has caught squirrels! The other cats are afraid of her. lol.:D

Gray, this is really cool! I guess you did this with your new bamboo, huh?:p:mad::D No, really this is a great painting!:)

10-11-2009, 02:41 AM
Here's my contribute coming directly from the Main Gallery!
Have an awful day! :D

10-11-2009, 03:51 PM
Caesar that is awesome :)
I love the twist.

10-11-2009, 08:57 PM
Thank You very much Sirius! Actually I posted here too, but the thread and all the conceptual implications (as well as the fun) were developped in the main thread where it started. It was Pai who told me there was this specialized thread for Halloween ...

10-12-2009, 12:26 AM
I think the idea and the painting is fantastic as I mentioned before Cesare. :)

10-14-2009, 10:35 AM
Salem is lovely and those eyes are incredible. Glad you shared her Sandy.
This threads still going great.

10-14-2009, 10:02 PM

Some pretty neat stuff in here. Glad I peeked!

10-06-2010, 11:36 AM
This one is my first attempt at the dark side of Halloween...it started out as an attempt at a Black house.....to go with a giant moon...but couldn't get the house right :(. SO I worked with the mess....!

Not completely happy with this one but thought maybe someone could help me figure out how best to get a haunted house affect...?

haunted blessings,

So very cool....

10-11-2010, 01:22 PM
Been missing in action for a bit with a bad back, and some eye problems. However, I snuck in back in time to make my lil contribution to the project.
I'm really rusty, but hope ya'll like it. :)

edit: First few times I tried to upload - it reduced my file down to 29kb. Finally got it to take at the right size, but for whatever reason - you have to open it up to the large size to see it clearly??

10-12-2010, 08:08 AM

10-15-2010, 03:53 AM
Another one for our halloween thread, what great paintings here and such fun going thru and looking at them

10-16-2010, 10:03 AM
Here is my entry to the Halloween. I recently read a book called "The Passage" this was a sketch I did in pencil after reading that book. I decided to scan it in and paint it in ArtRage with oil and knife. Quick paint, about 45 minutes. This is titled "I am Babcock"

10-22-2010, 12:59 AM
I came across a website for the Lovecraft Film Festival and it inspired me to do a poster, even tho the festival has come and gone.

This piece was done with the ink pen and airbrush, i then scrounged up some ornate typefaces for the typesetting.

Enjoy :)

Just a little contribution for Holloween.

It is of a Thai ghost, a female name Nang Nag". It is a true story that happend over 100 years ago. A story of a pregnat woman living in a boon dock of Thailand (no paved streets then) and when she was about 7 months pregnant her husband was drafted into the Army. She lived far form others and died trying to give birth to her baby, alone. It was over a month when the body was found and buried. But she haunted the house waiting for her husband which returned after 2 years in the Army, arriving home at night and was welcomed by Nang Nag in a human form.

They lived happily until one day he was under the house (a Thai hose which sits on stilts and the ground under is used for a lot of things), and saw this arm reaching for a dropped lemon all the way to the ground which was 6 feet from the floor. Then he knew and ran away. To make the end short, a monk had to capture her spirit and sent it to rest.

Every Thai knows about this story and many movies were made.

I used a picture from one of the movies to paint this painting. Painted with airbrush and knife.

Any comments and advice are welcome.

10-23-2010, 02:42 PM
Cool stuff.

I read up on that ghost too. That's a pretty interesting tale.

10-24-2010, 09:35 AM

10-13-2011, 02:51 PM
Here's a quick image I did today. I figured it'd fit in fine here, rather then starting a new thread for it. It was created with the Crayon and Chalk tools.

These are an Amazing Group of very impressive images. Great jobs, all! I posted this in reg. thread, before seeing this one - This is my Skull Castle piece from last month updated with a rotting bloody head in foreground - very Halloween...

10-18-2011, 05:37 PM
Great additions everyone :)

Here's another one from me (I linked to it from my AR gallery, so you'll need to click on it, to see the larger version):

http://www2.ambientdesign.com/gallery/files/3/3/4/2/zombies4_thumb.jpg (http://www2.ambientdesign.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=17702&c=newimages)

10-18-2011, 10:06 PM
When we say it costed me an eye (for some very expensive buy)! :D
Nice zombie and quite healthy with this pig pink flesh. I think that if he doesn't succeed to get (or find) my brain first, I would likely roast him for a wonderful "porchetta"! :p

10-19-2011, 01:18 AM
Here's something quite scary! This looks really like anorexia. (I spare You the whole sequence). Not the first case unfortunately. I can hardly believe someone may ever like such a "minimalist" feminine body.
I'm afraid this is a quite logical consequence of a quite illogical choice or expectation, but in general it refers to a lack of "acceptance".

10-20-2011, 02:31 AM

I have started making flash cards to help my son learn to read. I think this little chap is ideal for a Halloween thread.

MSIE... WOW fabulous colors with great depth.. I like this face and cool way you did the eyes as spirals... the border works well to enhance but contain the bright pallete with its thin black , bright yellow then orange trim... the build up of brush work on the hair, and face add a lot of great texture... very well done...:cool::cool::cool::cool::):):):):):): )

Great! I love the cracks in the grave. Not forgetting the skeleton of course, drawing all those details in the bones. Also the tree is fantastic and spooky. It really fits the mood!:D
