Hello, all! Welcome to my new sketchbook :D

First is a piece called "Sunbird" that I started in ArtRage and finished in PS. "As they tried to corral the thing that evening, its horn began to glow. The cowhands were about to discover that this ungainly black creature they'd found was a sunbird."
Also, we have another little Gorey-esque sketch, and a water dryad :)

09-11-2009, 10:47 AM
*falls over, stands up, only to fall over again*
(Sorry. It's the only thing I can say!)
These are...these are...Words can't even begin to describe how amazing these are.
I love the Sunbird and the Dryad one. The Gorey Tribute one is great too!

You're amazing. :D:D

09-11-2009, 04:21 PM
The first three are great fun. The last one ... I'm in love.

09-11-2009, 05:51 PM
Great paintings but the last one is so dreamy, I love it

09-11-2009, 09:48 PM
Fantastic work as always! Love the cartoon and the new bird creation. I am most taken with the fantastic job on the cowboy figures and especially the one horseback one on the right. What great figure drawing.
The portrait is beautiful too.

09-12-2009, 12:03 AM
Interesting drawings. I like them all, but I like the first one all colored in the best:D

09-12-2009, 08:27 AM
weeun: thanks so much! I appreciate the enthusiasm ;)
RobertSWade: :) well, hmm.. mebbe I could get the dryad's number for you..? :p
coops: thanks, glad you like! :D
gzairborne: aw, thanks gz :)
Evart: thx, I think you're right -- the color does help :)

Here we have "Fantime" and a bored fire-faery, both drawn in AR and finished in PS. I sketched this picture of Fantime from Les Mis the other day as I dealing with a bad cold.. she ended up looking exactly like I felt! (My husband assures me I didn't actually look anything like this ;))

09-12-2009, 09:44 AM
HI AmontilladoAg

All paintings are fantastic  great work:D

09-12-2009, 11:41 AM
sabena: thanks so much! :)

A little monster...

09-12-2009, 03:32 PM
You capture expressions very well. The first one looks mentally challenged, no offense. The second is really cute, she's looks in dismay. The third is also very cute. Hey...I, I like them all :D

09-12-2009, 04:32 PM
Much wonderful work here - such diversity and always impeccable execution.
Terrific thread. :)

09-12-2009, 06:43 PM
really cool work you look like you have control of this program for sure! Great work!:D

09-12-2009, 07:31 PM
Excellent new work. Love the bored fairy.

09-12-2009, 09:25 PM
Very skilled-great artwork!

09-13-2009, 04:59 AM
Just looked through love the cowboy one, how it comes alive once coloured, the blue portrait is really lovely. I just love your bored fairy, so cute. Well done.

09-13-2009, 09:18 AM
beautiful work:):)

09-13-2009, 09:28 AM
Hi :)
Rather than a silver spoon... I think you must have been born with a pencil and paintbrush :D
Such a talented artist.
Truly Gifted! ;)

09-18-2009, 12:43 PM
Evart: thx :) yeah, I wasn't going so much for "mentally challenged" as "absolutely desperate", but that's what I get for hasty sketching
byroncallas: thank you very much, sir :D
cartuneman: thanks! :)
gzairborne: mhm, I was really pleased with how she turned out :D thx, gz
Alexandra: hey, thanks! :o
sandyg: thank you, ma'am :)
mannafig: thank you :D
Hally: lolz, thanks

Wow, I appreciate the encouragement, folks! :p

I did the line art for this sketch in AR [I love AR's pencil!!!] and colored it in PS. This is the knosk, seldom seen in the wild; the knosk is particularly fond of terpinflower nectar.

09-22-2009, 12:23 PM
And for tonight, a little color study...

09-22-2009, 12:28 PM
Omg this thread is amazing. All of these works are so varied and so very very good. I just adore no.2 what a classic.:)

09-22-2009, 12:55 PM
Wonderful work on all of these :D
I admire your versatility

09-23-2009, 04:12 AM
Juz: hey, thanks so much :D yep, my SB's pretty varied cuz I draw what comes to mind... and that could be anything
EthanF.: thx, EF; glad you stopped in :p

"Rollerskates", lineart done in AR, finished in PS.

09-23-2009, 05:31 AM
You truely have a diverse and wonderful talent....

09-23-2009, 05:46 AM
I adore Your unique, fantastic and poliedric talents, dear Amontillado! You are a reference master in here for me!

09-23-2009, 07:59 AM
Great additions Amontillado, you are very talented.

09-23-2009, 02:34 PM
I am new to this forum and enjoying my visit. These are wonderful works. You are very talented and know how to use your software well. Do you use a tablet and also do you sketch your work out by hand and then scan it and import it, or do you draw directly into the program?

09-24-2009, 08:21 AM
more brilliant work:):)

09-24-2009, 07:19 PM
I really love the boxer and the very vintage looking one also. Great art! :)

09-26-2009, 07:49 AM
foxytocin: aw, thanks :) I like your blog, btw!
Caesar: not sure about "poliedric" but thanks anyway, C ;)
sandyg: thanks very much :)
JeanB: hey thx, JeanB :) I do have a tablet (fantastic things, tablets!!!), and usually I work digitally from sketch to finished piece, especially with AR, since I'm hopelessly enamored of its pencil tool. I do traditional work [and lots of other pieces in PS and Painter] as well -- check out my blog (http://artistaggie.blogspot.com/)!!! :D
mannafig: gracias!
gzairborne: thx, gz :p

A motley assortment, as per usual:

1) sleepy-stretch cat is ... stretchy
2) Unicorn Girl -- yeah, I dunno....
3) singin' the Workin' Man Blues..
4) "Do Want!", drawn in AR, colored in PS -- the cautious diphu roams the plains [and seldom falls for such ploys]
5) scribblez :) I'm particularly fond of the hamburger man, practicin' his stabbin' (as Futurama's Roberto would say)

09-26-2009, 03:04 PM
Just keepin' it random... :D

"Lollipop Paws" [aka 'Sticky Fingers', I s'pose :p], from Edward Lear's "The Jumblies":

... They sailed to the Western Sea, they did,
To a land all covered with trees,
And they bought an Owl, and a useful Cart,
And a pound of Rice, and a Cranberry Tart,
And a hive of silvery Bees.
And they bought a Pig, and some green Jack-daws,
And a lovely Monkey with lollipop paws,
And forty bottles of Ring-Bo-Ree,
And no end of Stilton Cheese.
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue,
And they went to sea in a Sieve...

09-26-2009, 04:20 PM
Anne, I just love your sense of humor and of course the amazing art work. You are extremely talented. The latest quintet is a prime example of really excellent artwork. The cat napping and stretching I just love.

09-26-2009, 07:20 PM
You have a fabulous all-round talent and a great sense of humour. I really enjoyed scanning through your thread.

09-26-2009, 08:38 PM

09-29-2009, 03:03 AM

Kayla: thx very much! Appreciate your stoppin' by :)
coops: oh good! I'm glad I can make someone smile :D
Selby: why, thank you -- what a nice thing to say :p

And now, a presentation from the acclaimed Loompa Theatre, for your viewing pleasure...

09-29-2009, 03:42 AM
Quite simply brilliant. :)

09-29-2009, 04:08 AM
I just finished enjoying my way through your thread. What great talent, as is shown by the variety of work you do! All are wonderful, but "Alas, poor Wonka" is really a hoot! Thanks for sharing all of this!

09-29-2009, 06:44 AM
"Poliedric" in the sense that You have many artistic talents and capabilities, dearest Amontillado.
I apologize to make You blush and I try to refrain from compliments, but I just cannot hold too much my enthusiasm for Your excellent and exceptional entries!

09-29-2009, 07:25 AM

09-29-2009, 08:35 AM
Agree with Alexandra, brilliant. Funniest thing I have seen in quite awhile.

09-29-2009, 09:30 AM
Beautiful work! I just love your loose style. Very imaginative as well.

3) self-portrait as superheroine  because.. why not?!
4) "Blue Ox".. [why, yes I grow up watching Looney Tunes; why do you ask? :p]

10-02-2009, 01:18 PM
Always a treat to stroll through this thread. :)

10-02-2009, 04:02 PM
It's so nice to see all your different paintings again. Every piece is so unique and beautiful on it's own. Like seeing different story on each of them. :)

pai: hey, long time no see! I'm so glad you like my work; thx for looking! :)

3) the legendary white stag, trapped in the forest

10-09-2009, 02:47 PM
Beautiful work Amon, I have enjoyed viewing your art, and I love your themes. :)

10-09-2009, 10:38 PM
Curiously Sandra shortened Your name in Amon and that gave me a sudden intuition: You must be the mighty ancient Egypt god Amon-Ra, the Sun!
I would respectfully, but loudly praise Your newest gorgeous artpieces too, o powerful divinity of visual arts!
Which mortal may ever and so confidently and easily create an universe of stunning places and characters?:confused::cool::):):p

10-10-2009, 01:04 PM
Whenever I see your thread comes up, just can't wait to see your new additions. As usual, so many varieties and excellent painted. I epescially like the last one but I love all three. Hard to pick. ha..ha. Thanks for sharing your lovely works. :)

10-10-2009, 05:47 PM
That last one really epitomizes for me what digital art should look like. I'm fascinated... do continue!

10-10-2009, 07:23 PM
Brilliant as always Anne. The last one with the white stag is beyond amazing.

10-11-2009, 09:20 AM
Great work, wonderful additions Amon, I'm glad you are continuing the thread with your creative delights, you can do all subjects well. I'll keep coming back and checking.

10-11-2009, 10:05 AM
Wow, nice to see again and again. Fantastic art.

10-16-2009, 06:46 AM
Alexandra: thanks so much! :)
Caesar: lolz, I somehow doubt that I'm an incarnation of any kind of divinity, sun-god or otherwise! ;)
pai: thank you so much, pai -- always glad when you stop by :D
Gray: gosh, that's quite a compliment :o thanks!
gzairborne: pssh, how you do go on, gz ;)
sandyg: muchas gracias! always more where this came from! :)
orianelima: thank you so much, O :D

A little of this, a little of that.. as per usual. A quick scarecrow sketch, a mischievous monkey and a little black cat. Enjoy!

10-16-2009, 06:53 AM
Hi AmontilladoAg

I love your paintings they are special:)

10-16-2009, 10:45 AM
Oh, I love these. Just wonderful, I especially love the black cat. Very much like my Salem that I uploaded in Cartoonman's Halloween thread. :)

Mairzie Dotes
10-16-2009, 01:59 PM

This thread and your paintings take me in many interesting and wonderful
directions as I view them. I am quite taken with one of your latest pieces ...
"Legendary white stag trapped in a forest." How very touching it is. All are
very well painted ... an amazingly enjoyable collection! :)

10-16-2009, 02:24 PM
sabena: thank you very much :D
Alexandra: thx, aren't black cats just cool? :)
Mairzie Dotes: I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the thread, MD :p Stay tuned!

10-16-2009, 04:55 PM
I am in love with that little fox. :D

Even if I hadn't seen the picture of the kitten, I'd know that the french says 'The Little Black Cat'.
I learn french in school. :)

Mairzie Dotes
10-16-2009, 09:22 PM
This is the most adorable little fox. He has such a sweet expression.
You have captured the definition of "precious." So well painted. :)

10-18-2009, 12:17 PM
weeun: Très bon! Je parle français aussi .. mais seulement un peu :o
Mairzie Dotes: Glad you like! I thought he was pretty cute ;)

"Strawberry Ice Cream".. and a sheep. :)

10-18-2009, 12:50 PM
Amon, these are fabulous! My daughter loves foxes. I must show her yours. And yes, black cats are too cool to me too.:)

10-18-2009, 02:02 PM
Hey AmonA

I enjoyed your whole thread, and your sketches, both in this thread and your previous one, are just amazing!

10-18-2009, 02:32 PM

10-18-2009, 03:28 PM
Ooooh, that sheep is so fuzzy and adorable, I just want to hug it!
I love that monster...Or is a dinosaur?
Well, whatever it is, it seems to be a gentle giant...And very hungry too! :p:D

Mairzie Dotes
10-19-2009, 07:51 AM
OMG! "Strawberry Ice Cream" and "Sheep" is the to die for definition
of total cuteness!!! Both characters have captured my heart. Such
lovable imagine's they are and not to mention ... one of my favorite
ice cream flavors is strawberry! Very creative and so well painted! :)

10-19-2009, 11:34 AM
Alexandra: thanks, hope your daughter thinks it's cute, too :)
hinket: thanks -- so glad you dropped by! :D
orianelima: thank you, sir :o
weeun: yeah, I'm not sure what the Big Blue Thing is.. kinda dinosaurish...?
Mairzie Dotes: lolz, such enthusiasm! :D thx, MD

Just whipped this one out, thought I'd share... "Skinny Malinky Frog-legs Learns to Dance"

10-19-2009, 04:09 PM
Amon, this is the sweetest thing that I have ever seen! I am totally loving it!!!!:):):):):):):)

Mairzie Dotes
10-19-2009, 08:41 PM
Can hardly contain myself ... so absolutely the high end of adorable is
"Skinny Malinky Frog-legs!" The artistry is superb and not to mention ...
I know two people that would immediately identify with your painterly
couple ... one can dance and the other??? ... wellllllll ... many lessons
might be in order and that said ... there would be nooooo guarantee of
the effort nor the results therein. :D Wonderfully whimsical, love this,
fancifully touching and so very well painted. :)

10-19-2009, 08:47 PM
Brilliant. :) I love your style.

10-19-2009, 08:49 PM
Brilliant, happy and makes me smile.:) Great painting

10-19-2009, 09:07 PM
Will You ever produce any image less than excellent, dearest friend?
I'm kidding, but You're really super! ;):)

10-19-2009, 09:27 PM
Great illustration! Very well done!

10-19-2009, 11:03 PM
Top quality illustration! Skinny Malinky dinky do. Skinny Malinky do. :)

10-20-2009, 12:41 AM

11-20-2009, 05:23 AM

Mairzie Dotes: thx, MD; glad you like it! :D
Boxy: thx! cheers :)
coops: glad it made you smile :p
Caesar: lol, thx Caesar.. I try :o
Sketchism71: thx so much! :)
gzairborne: lolz, yeah pretty much :D
mannafig: thank you! :)

Wow -- Long time, no see, y'all; been busily drawing away over here... (big surprise, huh ;)) If I've posted any of these before, I'm sorry; it gets hard to remember after a month!

1) "Mermaid Lagoon"
2) faces
3) "Ninja Boy, Pirate Girl: the Forbidden Love"
4) "Paso Fino"

11-20-2009, 06:49 AM
Pure excellence!:D

11-20-2009, 11:25 AM
Never seen this thread before:o:o. I've lost it, but it's
Painting and sketches are so different but all lovely and fun.

11-20-2009, 03:35 PM
I love Skinny Malinky Frog-legs Learns to Dance!

This painting, both in posture and facial expression, perfectly embodies the words "Dance" and "Joy." :D

Interestingly, (to me at any rate) the face of the girl with the big eyes, bangs and straight hair, looks a lot like me at about age 11.

And your horse is just super!

11-20-2009, 06:47 PM
There is just an amazing array of variety between each image, I would never have guessed that all of this came from the same artist. When compiled together like this though, it really says something about the fun loving nature of the artist.

Reynard... as in Reynardine? Gunnerkrigg? I don't think I've ever seen such a cute harmless little version as that if it is! Great job.

Mairzie Dotes
11-20-2009, 11:37 PM
"Mermaid Lagoon" is pure sweet fantasy ... "faces" are admirable
expression studies ... "Paso Fino" is quite exceptional and "Ninja
Boy, Pirate Girl" tugs at my romantic side. Forbidden love you say?
It can't be true because they look like the perfect couple!
Wonderfully painted updates! :)

11-21-2009, 08:14 AM
Beautiful and artful artpieces salad once again, dear mate!

12-09-2009, 04:07 PM
Alexandra: thanks so much! :D
silvy: I'm glad you stopped by, silvy; thx for the kind words :)
hinket: glad you like what you see, hin ;)
Gray: lolz, yeah, my work usually ends up bein' pretty varied :p and yes, "Reynardine" was the inspiration for the little fox pic -- not the Gunnerkrigg version per se, but more the devious ne'er-do-well from the song (http://www.metrolyrics.com/reynardine-lyrics-sandy-denny.html) I was listening to at the time... and I decided to make mine as cute as possible. :)
Mairzie Dotes: thx, Mair :p their love is only forbidden in the internet's "ninjas vs. pirates" sense, I think
Caesar: thanks, dear C :D

So, keepin' it random as always, here we have some recent works...

1) The cover illustration for some coloring book pages I was commissioned to do. I did all the sketches for the entire project in AR, then traced them in Illustrator to give them the thick coloring-book-lines look.
2) "The World in Solemn Stillness Lay" -- what if angel-singing looked like colored stars?
3) a 'Father Christmas/Santa' sketch

Am not aware of the above mentioned "Illustrator" program but the
finished product is a fantastic coloring book illustration for kids. Those
Basset's are adorable with each having their own separate, lovable

I am immediately taken with "The World in Solemn Stillness Lay." What
a most heavenly painting an yes ... I do hear those angels singing as
they light the solemn silence of night's winter sky with their luminous
presence. What a most wondrous, inspirational piece and message and ....

"Father Christmas" exemplifies my impression of what Santa has always
represented ... a benevolent spirit of giving and unconditional love.
What creative beauty of heart, soul and joy these art works have. :)

12-09-2009, 11:33 PM
More great work! Keep them coming, this thread is always a joy to view.

12-09-2009, 11:34 PM
You aRe an ArtRage machine! very interesting posts. keep them flowing!

12-10-2009, 02:04 AM
Mairzie Dotes: aw, thanks MD :) I always enjoy getting your input on my pics! Adobe Illustrator is an interesting program, btw; I'm still learning my way around it.
Boxy: thank you very much, sir :D
iceaxe: lolz, thanks! :)

Just one more sketch for the moment... "Pinecone", drawn in AR, finished in PS.

12-10-2009, 12:08 PM
Anne, always a joy to see your art. You are such an amazing talent! Great sense of humor too. Delightful to revisit. Your sketches are amazing. Christmas pictures are just magical.
Love the pinecone. Beautiful taste in colors and textures too.

12-10-2009, 06:03 PM
Reynard is fantastic. Gotta get that out there again, Tom Siddell is perhaps my favorite artist at the moment, followed closely by Aaron Diaz (not to be confused with the acting fellow)

Every time I see this thread resurface, I think "YES! Another one!" I really love your father Christmas fellow here, Somehow manages to convey the state of the economy in a non-ironic manner, and it's just great. Really puts the emphasis back on the spirit and away from the circumstances.

12-10-2009, 10:37 PM
No one of Your images is less than excellent, dear Anne!
Nice trip through Your new artpieces.
Merry Christmas to You and Your family too!

12-11-2009, 03:48 AM
I just love this thread, what an incredible imagination. Each of these works really needs its own thread so our comments can do them justice. Of the new additions some of my fav's include the steampunk woman on the rollerskates, the sheep with the overgrown wool and the alas poor wonka piece lol. Absolutely delightful sense of humor. :):)

Mairzie Dotes
12-13-2009, 08:16 AM
This is by far, the cutest pine cone I've ever seen. What a sweet face
and well painted! :)

12-13-2009, 08:25 AM
excellent work..I love all of them:):):):D

12-23-2009, 07:09 PM
gzairborne: thanks, gz :) I'm so glad you're likin' my artz!
Gray: aw, thx for the kind words :D
Caesar: thank you, Caesar; Merry Christmas to you, too :)
Juz: thanks for stoppin' by, Juz -- stay tuned for more crazy random artz ;)
Mairzie Dotes: lol, thx! Do you see many cute pinecones, just out of curiosity? :D
Bumble: thank you very much!

Recent sketchings... in btwn joyous/haphazard holiday doings. Huzzah!

1) The faces, as usual.
2) My husband, sleeping.
3) A horse study.
4) This is kind of cheating, b/c I did it in Painter, not AR. But I'm hoping, in your jolly Yuletide mindset, you'll see past that and enjoy the pic.

12-23-2009, 10:56 PM
It's not just a thread, dear Monty, rather an exceptional art book and a multiple styles tutorial by examples as well!
Who needs to watch TV anymore to expand our view and enjoy, when we may admire these gorgeous images?

12-23-2009, 11:06 PM
really amazing sketches you do. The horse is fantastic.

12-25-2009, 01:45 PM
Beautiful additions again. Love all these new ones especially your sketch of your sleeping husband and the horse. Lovely christmas card as well. Merry Christmas to you and your family. :)

12-25-2009, 09:45 PM
More wonderful work. :)

01-07-2010, 10:31 AM
Caesar: Grazie mille, C :D
gzairborne: thx very much; I thought the horse turned out pretty well -- especially considering that it started out as a 4am-can't-sleep scribble
pai: thank you so much, pai :)
Boxy: hey, thank you! :)

I've got two offerings for your viewing pleasure this afternoon -- some studies, "Headdress" and "Green Jay" (coloring/title inspired by this song (http://www.metrolyrics.com/green-jay-lyrics-christina-courtin.html)).

01-07-2010, 11:09 AM
lots more wonderful works but I have got to say that horse is my fave:):)

01-07-2010, 12:37 PM
This is my first visit to this thread and I am so glad I entered! What a wonderful and enchanting place to be! Anne, your artistic talent is evident and I love all of your works. The painting of Snoopy on his dog house brought back fond memories of me drawing him and Charlie Brown (and the rest of the crew)...one of my favs growing up!

BTW...what a great blog you have, too!

mannafig: thanks! I'm partial to horses, myself ;)
Eileen724: glad you stopped by; thank you for the kind words :)

Amid the whirlwind of stuff and things, there's always a little art to be had :) Here we have a little (local) team spirit, a little Lolcatz, and a little blues  -- inspired by Over the Rhine's song "Trumpet Child (http://www.overtherhine.com/cd18_lyrics.php)":

The trumpet child will blow his horn
Will blast the sky till it’s reborn
With Gabriel’s power and Satchmo’s grace
He will surprise the human race.

Hello, all! :D Long time, no see!!! It's good to be back on a forum again; can't wait to see all the latest artwork folks have been doin'!

Here's some of my art for ya -- "[Galactic] Hitchhiker", "Dessert", and "Kernel". These sketches were inspired by Illustration Friday (http://www.illustrationfriday.com/index.php)'s weekly art themes; worth checking out if you've got a little time for sketching every week :)

Love the one with the cupcake especially. . . as if in answer to Mannafig's pin-ups with the little doggie.

Great pose. Very much a personality shining through. Great style(s).
