View Full Version : Dab and Scrape

I was testing the oil 100% load and different size and using the knife to scrape across the canvas. I am curious if it is possible to create a painting that is made only by dab and scraps that would actually resemble anything. Anybody want to try?

I came across a neat effect by dragging color into black. Anyhow, the pic post is a start.

Man of the fire. His beady little eyes and sharp fire claws. Ok, cheesy, but it's a start.

hehe good one peter...this really worked well cause you used the effect to make the scene come alive rather than just the strokes

An interesting palm tree. This suprised me. I wondered if you could get anything from dab and scraping. Thx.

Here's another try........I did use the eraser to clean it up if that's allowed?

Neato, I thought this thread was dead. I also thought that getting a reasonable picture from dab and scrape was not possible.

Eraser allowed, well, i suppose.

Thx for posting. Neat.

Here's another one..........you could develop this technique with some careful planning before starting the picture.................what a good idea you had!

Hi,

thanks to everyone who posted replies.................

Mouse: yes the lava one worked best because I didn't just rush in but this is a fascinating way to use the tools...........................I'm going to use this quite a lot to see if I can perfect some kind of method!

I am really pleased to see what is coming from dab n scrape. Very neat paintings.

Peter, I was suprised to see a nice seascape, and Bumbled followed with a beach by the sea.

Thanks Mouse......................I've never painted using real paints so I don't know if this could be done in the real world so to speak but ArtRage makes it so simple to do...........no mess and no wasting paints in the trying............I agree with whoever it was who said this is a steal at the price........a fabulous programme!!!

Pssst. . . Pete, don't be obvious, but catch that groupie, dressed to the nines in the red daub n' scrape. Noticed her in the gallery earlier. She's cheking me out.
. . .
She's got the hots for me, eh? I think it's my white beard and Christmas hat.
. . .
Let's slide into the Tips and Tricks and see if she follows.

Hi Bumble,

I hope you'll excuse me for not asking your permission first .............. the fields part of the painting has such a wealth of hazy detail so I added a couple of things................I hope you find it's in keeping with the picture overall

I have just put this up on you-tube. It is my first. I am pleased. Thank you for looking.

I have just been following this thread from start to finish, looking at everyone's stages of development and ideas. It seems to have been started by drdreams followed by Peter and others including fab work by colorcrazy and Lynda.

Have loved it all. A hearty well done to all of you. Am off to try it out too. Happy New Year everyone and may it be a creative one.
