Your skill is remarkable. Is it possible to share some of the techniques you use to get such realistic results?

Absolutely love your work.

Rick, this is simply great! The subtleness of the colors, your textures, those brilliant reflections--just super! (The background looks a bit like our sky at this moment.)

Weee! You should be a brain surgeon with that precise control you have... I bet there's not a picture that doesn't hang exactly straight in your house!

Rick
04-29-2009, 11:10 AM
Fraser, you sure know how to read a guy.. Not a picture that is not straight is correct.. I dust them all weekly, and carry a small level in my pocket for straightness.. That goes for the papers that are on my desk, as well.. Always straight to the desk edge and perfectly in line.. We wont even talk about the shorts in my dresser drawer, or the things in my medicine cabinet.. It is almost an affliction.. In fact, I believe it is an affliction.. Don't know how my wife of 53 years has handled it.. Poor dear.. Thanks for liking the painting..

Well, I'll add my praise to the list... it's a truly fantastic painting.

I have to say that it's funny, in a way, to see you put up a painting that's about 5% done in the WIP forum, then you do it to 10%, then... the finished item shows up in the Gallery! Really, I'm not complaining (and I hope you'll continue to show your WIP), it just reminds me of the old "1, 2, 3, Infinity!" slogan :-)

Rick
04-29-2009, 02:42 PM
Hi, Yachris.. I must be missing something here.. Should I post more along the way, or not post the finished product?? Or not post along the way?? Just curious as i know nothing of the 1, 2, 3, infinity slogan..
However, thanks much for the compliment..

Well Rick that puts me at the other end of the spectrum... I'm untidy, messy, not at all methodical and have a butterfly mind that rarely allows me to complete a piece of work properly, that's why I'm posting half finished projects and changing styles all the time. Some would say your affliction is a gift, especially as it generates such fantastic work.... So if you have OCD then I'll put my hand up to ADD.

Rick -- please accept my humble apologies. I was writing my feelings, not at all trying to make you change in any way.

I sincerely hope you'll continue to post your art, when and where you see fit. It's fantastic to see your partially completed works, as well as your finished masterpieces.

Again, sorry, shouldn't have said it.

Rick,
An unbelievably striking painting. I am constantly amazed at your
wonderful gift of sharp detail, precision and artistry. The palette of
varied brown tones adds delectable richness to this admirable piece.
Just wonderful! :)

Sorry I missed the WIP.... the finished piece is stunning. A beautiful aesthetic to this piece. So elegant and Asian in feel.
The reflections and the illusion of smooth shiny surfaces are quite amazing.

Hello Rick...Another cracking good painting, very exact and precise,I couldnt do this ,it would take tooooo long and my patience would run out, I have to do two or three pictures a day, which severely limits me from doing this kind of detail, you must have the patience of a saint mate, what kind of size do you use? no dont tell me I,ll guess about 3000 pixel, I havent got that much paint in my computer...well done mate, class picture...Jack.

Rick
05-06-2009, 11:48 AM
Thank you all again.. Jack, I paint everything at 1455 x 1155 @150.. In either landscape or portrait.. Don't know much about sizing, but this works good for me and prints out real well on an 8.5 x 11 printer..
