Excellent painting...The jug looks like it's seen many happy times..I really like the way you did the wood wall..Perfect..

I knew that jug was going to "pop" and I love that you made it "pop" in a wonderfully understated way completely in keeping with the subdued manner of the rest of the palette. Another masterwork from you Richard!

This is simply wonderful, with rich, warm color depth; it prompted me to seek out your gallery which I find equally stunning and compelling.

Any doubt that we may like this stunning piece, dear Rick! I love it and I'm in awe in front of this composition!
Based on a sudden impression on my retina, the only experiment I would possibly make on it would be to try another version with a slightly less homogeneously intense black colour all over the deepest dark areas ...

The cabinet wood looks like wood...so realistic and beautifully painted...lovely, lovely work.

Caesar, is this kind of what you mean??

This turned out just as beautiful as I imagined it would. Very nicely done! Take your time in emptying the jug. That cider can be strong stuff! :p

Very nice picture Rick, you do put a lot of effort into getting things just so,I appreciate the amount of detail in this, you have great patience, a couple of sups from the Jug would not go amiss( helps you relax)...Jack.

Very nice Rik.

There's too much to admire here, the wood, the apples and jug. And being a west country boy I have a thing about cider, we call it scrumpy.

Beautiful painting! It has such a warm, comforting feeling about it with an
old world, rustic flavor. Exceptionally well painted as always! :)

02-04-2009, 09:36 AM
Exactly, Rick! It still works, doesn't it?

02-04-2009, 10:15 AM
Caesar,, me thinks I have to go with the solid black.. Something about the contrast.. But, you know it's all in the eye of the beholder.. I thank you for the suggestion though..

Fruits are your profession. Really like the colorscheme.

Tremendous job.

I think Caesar may have meant to add a touch of old master chiaroscuro in the darkest areas. A little variation in those dark areas as if some light did hit there also. I think his point is valid, but this is so beautiful already it is very hard to mess with it so to speak after you spend hours painting it. Just for fun here is a bit of chiaroscuro added to the dark areas. :)

Beautiful work as usual Rick, a feast for the eyes.

gzairborne, I'm not sure what you did, or how you done it, but I do see a marked difference in the painting.. What ever you have done sure makes the painting stand out.. I like the effect a lot..
