Hi Viktor, I was wondering why some of the oil tube color dabs are blurred in places on the palettes? This is not a complaint just some feedback; as this slightly spoils your sweet idea of having a real artists palette - the blurred parts don't look as convincing thats all.

One of the things I liked about corel painter was the artists mixing palette, but your idea is so much better because it has the look and feel of a real artists palette, as well as all the variability of the accompanying sliders. Really cleverly done! Thanks :D

Viktor

rowena, those are paper palettes so some parts of blurred because it is oil colour and leave oil blot on paper palette.

I've been watching this thread with some interest (BTW, great stuff Dany51 and Viktor), and I thought I might pass along another idea which can be done with the custom picker which I've been doing for a while.

One of the things I've been missing with Artrage was a place to "smush", blend and mix the colours. Don't get me wrong -- the pre-set mixers have been good but when it comes to things like skin tones and eye colours I've found them a bit awkward to work with. So, I started saving 200x200 colour pickers where I've been premixing them and then saving them for previous use. For example, on a recent painting, I used the colour picker below to emulate skin colours.

Ok i am totally pc stupid,... i have no idea what a png or whatever i have no idea where files are or how to even create one,... or even where to click...can you explain it to me like im a tardo,..because i feel like one,..lol. i only turn on my new comp to draw,... its a 2,000 sketchbook, lol.

RobertSWade

A .png file is a "personal" or "portable" network graphics type of file. It is transportable across many different types of applications. In the ArtRage file system, it is useful for creating or storing files that go into various sub-files including "Grains" in your Ambient Designs folder under "Resources".

But,... i still have no clue as to what to click on,...where to look. I was wanting the palet for portraits,.. but like i said i have no clue how, what, or where to click....lol. I really only bought this comp to use for personal drawing, i know it has a killer graphics card "whatever that is" 4 GB of ram.."whatever that does" and 600 GB Memory,..i kinda have an idea about that, lol. I bought a nice wacom and i love using it,...but i have no other computer skills, lol. Can you dumb down how i go about getting the portrait pallet that everyone was on about in the start of this thread?..any help would be great :o

Dear Bublis,
Right click on png file (palette image) that you want (at uppermost in first post of this thread) then choose Copy command and paste it to desktop. Then copy (or cut) the png file and paste it in C:\Program Files\Ambient Design\ArtRage 2\Resources\Pickers folder. :) Okey?

Hey newbies, scroll to the start of this thread and read through for excellent instructions. If you still can't follow them on your $2,000 computer then spend a penny on a basic computer class, you won't regret it!
These custom pallettes are very inspiring. I just make take my tablet to a park to draw if the weather warms up!

These look great, but I'm new to installing these things, and it looked as though your instructions on how to install was for Windows based computers. How do you install them on Mac OS X Snow Leopard? Any help would be much appreciated :D.

I haven't tried these out yet, but they look amazing, so thank you for sharing, and for your hard work.

These are so cool! I wish they would fit within the new picker dimensions. :(

I found the same thing - I preferred the setup on 2.5's colour picker to the new one on Studio Pro. You can fit these into 2.5, but not the newer ones. I don't need a great big curved slider for 'Metallic' - I never use it... :D

Oakshios
01-05-2012, 01:47 AM
I agree. I never used the old style but have seen images and it just made more sense. Even if you got rid of the slider and just made it a part of the "right click" menu.

I searched for ages to find out how to get rid of the Metallic slider... I love the pallets but the last 2-3 colours are cut off due to the new picker dimensions. Maybe an option to turn off the strip would be good.

DaveRage
01-29-2013, 10:25 AM
As the colour pickers are slightly different sizes, if they are getting cut off in ArtRage 3 ( Studio / Studio Pro ) it means that they were created in ArtRage 2. The metallic slider can't be removed in ArtRage. Any custom colour pickers created in Artrage 3 won't be cut off in ArtRage 3. I hope this helps clarify things.

Palettes in this thread are great, thank you for sharing. One question - I'm using AR4 and when I add those palettes and try to use then the corner of the palettes is covered by the "metallic" value picker and the colour actually in use. So I can only use 3/4 of the palette. Is there a way around this? In Viktor's images his colour picker looks different to mine, I guess it's due to a different version of the program, but is there a way around this.
