Just out of interest - how did you sample the colors, were they scanned in from comercial printed material?

I'm sorry if i'm being a ditz by overlooking something but I can't for the life of me get this .col file to work in my colors folder, or anywhere else in ArtRage. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I haven't had trouble with any other files I've added (stencils, etc.) to their respective folders.


Please fill me in on your secret, I love the colors in this file, I would really like to be able to use it. When I download it, the little file icon stays white, doesn't turn the dark color that the rest of the files in my colors folder are. :confused: (hee hee! i get a kick of out these smiley guys, sorry. lol)

I am not certain,
but try selecting tools from the top menu,
then select show color samples panel
then click on the little down arrow,
select load colours
select the file that you would like to use,
(note the color sampler is a bar menu, it is not the color picker in the bottom right of the screen)

Hi all,

Here's how to use these colours in ArtRage:

1/ Download the file ( you'll see the .col file at the bottom of Ogreger's initial post )
2/ To show the colour samples panel in ArtRage, either press the S key, or click the arrow at the base of the colour picker to bring up the colour picker menu and choose 'Show colour samples panel'
3/ At the top left of the colour samples panel you'll see another arrow ( These indicate a menu in ArtRage throughout ). Click it and choose 'Load colours'
4/ Now browse to the file you download it, select it and click 'Open'. Now you've loaded the colours!

For more information on using the colour samples panel, see the topic 'The Color Samples Panel' in the ArtRage manual ( Help -> ArtRage Manual ).

when you save these where do you put them? What is .col file? does this mean color file? my system doesn't recognize it

I tried to download these put when I click to download my system wants to know what program to use to open them? I have XP use firefox I looked it up and find references to Autodesk Color Palette and Internet Color Wizard Color Scheme

Windows does not recognize .col extensions please let me know what program I need to upload .col extensions.

With firefox, choose the option to save it, rather than to open it. It will save to a standard location on your disk,(or desktop) locate the file and copy , or replace it to C:\Program Files\Ambient Design\ArtRage 2\Resources\Colors (where "C:\" stands for the drive letter you use of course)

Hi thanks for your reply, well with firefox I always choose the option to save it and it did go to my desktop and it is the image of the white paper with the top right of the corner bent with a picture of a windows screen in the middle of it. When I then click on it I get Windows Cannot open this file: To open this file, windows needs to know what program created it.

Are you saying don't click on it in my desktop? and somehow copy it to the location you indicated?

If you are saying what I think you are saying I can drag it into my colors file?

I cannot load these colors into ArtRage 2 on my Mac ..
I have tried every way of downloading and come up with a blank download

Hey thanks for the inktense Pencils colors :D

On the Mac side the folder where you need to put the .col file will look something like the following: Users/yourusername/Application Support/Artrage 2/Resources/Colors. Just drop the downloaded file into that folder and it will show up when you press load colors in the color thingy.
