View Full Version : Gates of Tartarus

Hi everyone,

Here's my latest pic. Just came back from a vacation and was in the mood for painting, so I finished this one. It started with a pure black and white doodle. I kept it monchromatic through the whole process. Some use of a texture in early stages for the walls. Well I colored it in it's final stage, but I think I still like the original bw version a bit more. So I posted both of them for you. Hope you like them.

Wow! Talk about a story! One's imagination can conger up several
variations, several cliff hangers. Very dramatic! Well done. :)

A fantasy fantastic!

Warrior looks like he's searching for something arcane -- a warrior's axe with a jeweled haft, a lost treasure?

A guy with shoulders that broad is going to have some tight fits underground.

I can tell the vacation agreed with you and you've got energy.

Thanks Mairzie, glad you like it. I always enjoy the kind of pictures, where your minds starts bringing up
a multitude of stories and interpretations, so it makes me very happy that you had that with one of my paintings.
Thanks alot.

Thanks Rick. Pleased you like it.

He' not running Jim. He's succeded wading the styx and is entering a small entrance to the underworld tartarus.
Thanks for liking it.

Thanks alot D. Yeah it's always the same. Growing up on the uncles farm, having a decrepit old horse and needing someone to take up the plow you get this kind of broad shoulders. Back to serious mode. My idea was loosely based on greek mythology and the guy is meant to be Zeus.

Hi Khalid. Thank you.

Thank you Shirly!!

Thanks Albert. Makes me glad you like it.

Well done! Both are great, but I sort of like the lightly colored second version better. To each his own.

That must have taken a week to do! Very awesome! I like the colored version better, it's subtle but it works! :)

Your recent works are just so interesting and great imagination. I really can't decide which one as well. They both give different feel to me. Great work. :)

A stunning style and evocative atmosphere! Looking at the dead warrior it seems to me that the particular Tartarus he's entering is maybe the Walhalla! :)

Excellent work Belvrog! They are both great.:)

Scott, Thanks for your nice words and your opinion.

Hi Robert, thanks mate.

Hi Irishrose, thank you. :) No, it didn't take that long. :D But some hours of fun went into it.

Thank you Gina.

Pai, thanks alot, means much to me.

Hi Caesar. Thanks for your thoughts and nice words. In my idea it's Zeus stepping down to his brothers dominion. So he's not dead at all. :)

Thank you Rain for your approval.:) Glad you like them.
