05-17-2008, 04:23 AM

Fashmir that is so good work, i may spend 5 hours on picture like that, but not minutes... It is so scareful dog looking from dark & finding some frash meat ,or she already find it :D

05-29-2008, 02:07 AM
I don't know why but i imagination your avatar Blind like that :)

05-29-2008, 02:12 AM

05-30-2008, 07:06 AM
Wow, those are really great ones,Arkadiy, I really love your version of my Avatar, it looks really funny! And Fashmir, yours are really great, too, the dog, or werewolf, whatever it is looks really scary and the undead one looks really funny and scary ( and very old^^).
I love to see your work, I hope I can beat yours at mynext try:D

05-30-2008, 08:35 AM
so, here it is:
It`s a kind of wild-west-zombie^^, and well, i think his green eye is the best of him^^
The other one isn`t really a monster, it`s a simple wolf silhouette.

05-30-2008, 09:13 AM
Well when I saw Arkadiy`s monster avatar, and my wolf, I thought it could be a good combination, and so I did a werewolf version of my avatar. Hope you like it!:D

05-30-2008, 10:54 AM
hope u dont mind me putting this one in.hopefully i'll do a new monster..:D

05-30-2008, 09:15 PM

Arkadiy- Don't be too hard on yourself. I've been doing this for many many years and I still have a lot to learn. Just keep creating images and learning from each one. Try not to let your eyes and hands be lazy and you will make great things.

ENCHANTER- Thanks for commenting on "Cookie". I miss Jim Henson being in the world. He sure left a great legacy behind.

05-31-2008, 03:18 AM
Watch over Your head in this gorge! Fully imaginary scene and characters.
I started it, as promised, but I think I'll be away three days before I can resume and finish it, so ... I hope You may like this WIP for the moment.

05-31-2008, 03:47 AM
Thank you, ENCHANTER, Fashmir and Caesar, those are really great ones, and I especially love the cookie monster, it looks great and so cute! Which tool did you use for the strokes Fashmir? Is that, chalk or a 500% pencil? or something else? please tell me^^

05-31-2008, 06:03 AM
So, here`s another one, It┤s done with a reference of a toy, which I found in the internet, hope you like it!

05-31-2008, 07:15 AM
And another one, 3 centipedes with different backgrounds, maybe not scary to some people, but though a kind of little monster^^:D
Seems, as I`m in monster mood today.

05-31-2008, 12:19 PM
Thank you, ENCHANTER, Fashmir and Caesar, those are really great ones, and I especially love the cookie monster, it looks great and so cute! Which tool did you use for the strokes Fashmir? Is that, chalk or a 500% pencil? or something else? please tell me^^

Hi Blind- I used the oil brush for the whole image. I used a circle stencil to handle the eyes. Oh and I did use a pencil at the very beginning to lay out my shapes but I deleted that part once I had my basic paint coat laid on.

05-31-2008, 11:12 PM
Thanks a lot Fashmir, that will help me a lot.

06-01-2008, 12:04 AM
And again another one, it`s Jack Skellington from "Nightmare before Christmas", done with reference.

06-01-2008, 04:14 AM

06-15-2008, 08:44 PM
Here's another one... well, it's not really worked out all the way, but it's a rather elaborate sketch.

Yes, it's a five-eyed-attack-baboon sent by the lizard people to protect the dark overlard, yes, overlard... it's a type of evil lard that gets mixed into harmless appearing food for hormon treated farm animals. It's pretty dark and smelly... of sulfur of course... ok,ok,ok, enough. :D

CÚdric Trojani
06-15-2008, 11:49 PM

06-29-2008, 05:49 AM
Just sat down and started to doodle when next thing I noticed this monster began to take on a "life" of his own. I had fun anyways and isn't that what we do this for is the fun and enjoyment ?

Have a great artistic day ya'll.

"Share a Smile" :)

06-29-2008, 06:09 PM
Amazing work people. Here's a quick try:

07-10-2008, 01:33 AM
Alright, this one's really rather good for the monster thread... initially I made it thinking the colorless thread was rather monochrome like, but just in time recognized it's about painting embosses with the oils instead.

So, although not planned as a monster, here it is...

07-11-2008, 06:21 PM
These are so cool :) Now linked from the ArtRage homepage!

D Akey
07-11-2008, 06:47 PM

07-12-2008, 04:41 AM
Some old ones recovered.

07-12-2008, 05:19 AM

07-19-2008, 10:27 AM
I probably need to draw more monsters on art rage, although i still need to get used to it :p (and i'm not good at backgrounds anyway)
Iv done your average Minotaur king... influenced by too many games and late nights :D

07-19-2008, 04:02 PM
Dear Latimer, Hello!!!! That's one heck of a billy goat;)!!!! very very good painting,,,,

07-20-2008, 12:14 AM
Not strictly a monster, but not so different... :)

This is my first painting made with artrage. Actually that's not painting, but maybe coloring... the drawing was made with a (real) pencil, I don't like to draw with the tablet.
I'm sure I have misused artrage a bit, I've painted with the airbrush almost everywhere, because it's like the digital brushes in other programs, I'm used to that.
I have some problems/questions about other tools (oil, etc), but I'd better open another thread and ask there.

Anyway, I hope you like it.

07-20-2008, 02:51 AM
Dear Lozeta,, Hello!!!! What a marvelous character!!!! so beautifully done!! a sweet disposition while he slits you throat no doubt!!! allover terrific!!!

07-20-2008, 07:29 PM

07-24-2008, 12:48 AM
Whoaaaa....some more scaryyyy stuff added here...
Nice job guys!!!

07-31-2008, 05:13 PM
is this a monster?

08-02-2008, 07:40 AM
Man, look what I've been missing! Some excellent monsters here... some scary (Enchanter's will give me nightmares o.o) some cute, some both :P I don't have a submission yet, but I know what I want to paint ^^ I'll try to have it done by next week.. but my main reference will be a text description.. so we'll see how it turns out XD

also, to give someone else ideas... I was tempted to do the Jabberwocky (google it, it's a poem :P ) but decided on something else^^

Cookie Monster was an unexpected, but nice addition too ^^ and speaking of Jim Henson, I just made a campus visit yesterday to the college that he graduated from, the University of Maryland :D and near the end of the tour, we had to all go inside, because someone thought they saw a Cougar on the campus XD and then our tour guide left and never came back... kind of like a monster movie O.o lol

And last but not least, welcome to the community Arkadiy :D I liked your monsters too :P I'm seeing improvement between your first monster here and your second already ^^ you'll be pro in no time! I'm kind of a beginner too. I recently found a way to paint that completely changed the look of my stuff. Try new things, and you'll find new tricks that work well :)

08-02-2008, 11:31 AM
Dear Draco91, Hello!!!! looking forward to seeing your 'new way' monster addition, sounds like 'The Cat People On Campus" thing you've got going there, be very careful!!! did looked up 'Jabberwocky', thank you, and methinks the inspiration for Docter Seuss stories,,, a monster with rhyme would be fun!!!

08-09-2008, 06:14 PM
Dear Lee- I'm glad you liked the poem.. it's one of my favorites :P and if you see the word "Vorpal" anywhere else, it originally came from the Vorpal Sword in Jabberwocky -- and no one knows what it really means XD they like to use it all over the place in roleplaying games like Final Fantasy now.

Unfortunately I messed up my painting to the point that I'm going to have to start over from scratch :( I'll get it done one of these days... I was going to paint the Leviathan from the book of Job in the Old Testament of the Bible, based only on the biblical description, but sometime near the end I realized I had taken parts of the Behemoth description and mistaken it for Leviathan
as a result, my "Leviathan" (sea serpant) had legs and a tail, and was very reminiscent of a dragon, which is completely different from both Leviathan and Behemoth :o

08-11-2008, 05:14 AM
Heres mine its more like a mad scientist whose experiment went wrong. Or an alien.

08-11-2008, 06:12 AM
I've been doodling this guy at meetings for years.. wondered when I was going to have a use for him.

08-13-2008, 12:34 AM
Maybe more of an fish-like alien than a monster?;)

(Made from a sculpt I did in Zbrush. Used the ZB image as a stencil in AR and then painted everything in AR and blending a few layers).

08-13-2008, 03:51 AM
Hi。。。nice imagine ..I like this faculty....

11-08-2008, 12:44 PM

11-15-2008, 07:13 PM
not sure if this can call monster..my first try..

11-16-2008, 07:17 PM
I'd call it that Pai, a demented look, with monstrous warts and a bad hair day, it's very well painted.

11-18-2008, 06:37 PM
Here is one I made for my little web comic : )

11-20-2008, 11:34 AM

A cool monster from the sony playstation game, 'Monster Rumble' I was experimenting with this image using the tube paint by smudging it around with the soft palette knife and airbrush and a little pencil for details. The only stencilling I used was for the eyes.

04-11-2009, 05:29 AM
Nicely done...He's a cute looking little guy,.....:)

04-11-2009, 05:38 AM
thanks weembaman :)

04-12-2009, 03:18 AM
Yo, that's cute, Jules!
Now I couldn't resist to make another one, too. But this time I had to do it in a few sessions, because I'm a little short on time. However, this one has several layers, starting with just a pencil sketch, then a background, a filled and shaded shape, then an overlay that gave a neat metallic black feel and a tint layer with a blue vignette over the whole thing with erased out highlights. Inbetween filled shape and background I put a shadow layer, too, actually. Oh, yes, and the logo, haha... as a mild overly. OH and a bit of structure for the background I put inbetween shadow and filled layer. There you go... has anyone kept count? :P

Took a few hours...

04-12-2009, 05:12 AM
Very nice...Like the colors very much...Nice work..!!

04-13-2009, 01:42 AM

04-14-2009, 11:31 PM
That's really beautiful, Ink! I just wonder why you didn't crop it? I mean, I understand the motive a little bit, but it would work just as wonderfully, if you cropped it slim around the head.

Funny one, Vladimir, reminds me of a mini game I once saw...hillarious game!

04-15-2009, 06:30 AM
sorry didnt notice it was so big...thats what beer and a wacom do!i resized it.*edited for Taron lol

They're here...they're really here, livin among us as if they had the right! Oh, and you seen em, you just don't know it...so let me tell you a little story. Children, gather round and listen well, your life may well depend on it.

When I was just a kid growing up on the farm, we grew a lots a thangs. Then one day, as with most others, I woke early to start on ma chores. I seen my Dad going toward tha woods. Now I ain't the sharpest crayon in tha box, but we don't grow nothin in the woods, just them fields, an' we got us a plenty of field to work, so why's my Dad headin to the woods?.......I followed.... I dun it,tho I was ashamed, I followed him. Curisoity got the better of me. I wish it hadn't. God, I wish I had just dun my chores...I saw him there, takin care of em, tendin' em better than he'd tend to tha corn. He caught me there. I couldn't stop starin'. I couldn't turn away, I's just froze to tha ground, like I's stuck in da mud or sumpin. He made me swear. Swear on the Lord's name and the baby Jesus too, that I'd never tell. Well, I ain't never told but I'm old now...on death's door according to that dang smarty doctor fella. We'll see bout that, but I gotta tell ya. Folks gotta know...gotta right to know I say. May the Lord and baby Jesus forgive me for tellin', but it ain't right keepin it secret like.

Wanna know what I saw? Sure ya do, that's why you're still sittin there with your mouth hung open a catchin' flies. Just don't eat em that's all. But, heck ya most likely have already...it's what THEY want. You eat em and they're in ya. They're a part of ya now...ha ha ha ha ha...and now you're gonna be one of them. Mushrooms....ha, them ain't no mushrooms...I KNOW! I KNOW! And now you do too...

04-15-2009, 09:08 AM

04-20-2009, 10:55 AM
There are terrific monsters in here; some creepy and some cuddly and all of them fun (although NOT fun to actually meet!).

I posted this in the regular gallery a while ago so perhaps it's cheating (and I apologize if that's the case), but since it fits the subject...here goes...

04-21-2009, 06:35 AM
So many awesome monsters here. :D Mine is some classic bayou monster...

05-11-2009, 11:54 PM
This is a pretty cool thread! I'll play. Here's a quick one. Roughly twenty minutes or so.

Just got here and browsing to all the forums here, seeing all the talent so many of you have.

This is a great painting, but also gave me a sort of DeJaVu with the movie "The Never Ending Story".

Great work.

05-25-2009, 08:01 AM

Hello all!

Here's my first piece of art done with ArtRage. It was the trial version, so some of the sketch's outline shows behind the colored section as there are no layers.

It's supposed to be a Chesire cat-er, bear. Whatever. Could be good for a video game boss...

[Due to forum rules, new users may not post links to other sites]

Hope you like it!

12-09-2009, 07:04 PM
so this started off as a demon dog thingie, morphed into a pig, turned into a bear, discovered it had hyena spots and a crocodile skeleton, grew a shark mouth and then failed to be all of the above. Oh well. It was fun. I used Bumble's tutorial for fur, but I used pencil and marker at 100% wetness instead of paint. Bumble is a genius with that knife thing.

12-10-2009, 10:49 AM
Here is my version of a monster:):)
I have posted this in the after 9 section so if it is too much for in here I will be happy to move it.

Ooops I forgot to add the image:o so here it is now

12-10-2009, 12:18 PM
Certainly got teeth and claws Gray, I wouldn't want to bump into that any time of the day. Must be a shape shifter with all that morphing going on.

01-03-2010, 03:18 AM
The one polite monster...

01-03-2010, 09:40 AM

02-03-2010, 03:23 PM
Cute spidery changing to horrible spidery, Sandy's right like a pokemon.
Kenmo love Frankie, he's a lovely shade of green.
Erindale, welcome to the forums, the shape of yours looks like the profile of Alien, fill him in and give him massive teeth.

02-05-2010, 08:00 AM
More of a brute then a monster but I'll add him to the collection... I created this a few weeks ago in Painter IX.5 & Paint Shop Pro X2...

But as I'm embracing ArtRage more & more suspect Painter maybe gaining a little dust...

03-16-2010, 11:58 AM

04-10-2010, 03:43 PM
I used Painter IX.5, Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 and ArtRage 2.5 to create this app... I did this a few months ago prior to really getting the ArtRage bug... or is it illness, perhaps it's an addiction... Do I need help?:D:D:D

02-06-2011, 07:51 AM
Ok - so this is not much of a "Monster" in a traditional Way"

His name is Slum-Slummy-Sleep-Sleep and sits next to little kids beds and pokes them with this stick until they go to sleep ;)

04-13-2011, 09:37 AM
I love this, Here are a couple of mine that I've done. A Zombie, A Chupacabra, and a vampire type of creature from the book "The Passage".

Love all the entries so far!!

04-13-2011, 09:42 AM
And here is my funny entry... the Cereal Killer.

Freddy Fruitloop has finally snapped after being blamed for the obesity epidemic. He can't take it anymore, and has started to take out all the healthy cereal he can find...

04-13-2011, 11:10 AM
Love the Cereal Killer one. That's great.

Careful everyone or you'll go Blind. . . :D I guess everyone has something slithering around the closet and under the bed. . . A great idea with (lots of hairy) legs. . .

02-09-2012, 11:36 PM
In order to boost this too again, I would collect here a few of my past monsters in a collage ...

02-10-2012, 08:20 PM

How do I get in on this Monster thread (image wise?)

I believe that if any thread is visible to you, you can just post -- ie. attach your painting to your post. Have some fun! Make us squirm, or laugh, or gaze in awe. . . not necessarily in that order. :D

Just dig in.

02-20-2012, 02:07 PM
If you're new to attaching image to your posts, you can view a guide here: http://www2.ambientdesign.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5. Feel free to contact me via the support page at www.artrage.com/artrage-support.html (http://www.artrage.com/artrage-support.html) if you have any problems and I should be able to help.

02-20-2012, 10:50 PM
Its great to see all your little monster all in one place Cesare, it also make me feel safer as they are all locked up together:)

02-23-2012, 02:13 AM
Hi Folks! Thought I'd throw a few of the monsters I've done into the mix!

02-23-2012, 02:14 AM
For some reason I couldn't attach both in the same post, so here's the other one.

02-24-2012, 08:36 PM
So, I came up with a Monster thing for Monsters' corner. I never really have any experience about posting or replying to a thread. And 'add a attachment'....they are foreign to me. Can someone please walk me through on how to contribute to this project??

Thanks, giggles at '[email protected]

03-01-2012, 04:17 PM
Let's see if I get this one right. If I do finally, then great!!

05-12-2014, 10:11 AM
