View Full Version : Trying to "chalk" up another one

This is a Chimango, a bird of prey here in Argentina. They´re scavengers, sort of hawk-like, sort of like vultures. At any rate, this is all chalk (pastels) using the knife for blending.

It´s not through yet, well maybe the bird. I still have to work out the foreground.

Any and all comments welcome.

Looks like its right on the mark to me Scott. Yes , the soft blade ( or side of thumb ) is essential with chalk.. Great media.. Your work is really looking good!!

Nice use of the toned paper -- perfect for this color range.

Great job.

As to suggestions, I suppose looking at the brightness of your signature, there needs to be something at least as eye catching on the bird -- color, highlights or something like that. Or, you could tone down the signature.

A great start! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

Ah, D´Akey, I just caught your comment about the signature. I just slapped it on hurriedly before posting this version. When I´m finished it will be much smaller and definitely so obtrusive. Good comment!
