View Full Version : A juicy pair, an eternal rose and the wild bunch ;)

I had enough with this one so I decided to post it now. I was inspired by a painting i saw of a guy called tony ryder.......and decided to my interpretation and twist. I tried a painterly realism in ArtRage. Hope you like it.

Yowza! That's seriously well done, Enchanter.
The textures on the pears and grapes are great - you can practically feel the fogging on the grapes and the slight roughness of the pears.
The rose petals have that nice velvetty look to them as well.
Nicely done!

Rendering's perfect and it's a still-life masterpiece! :D :D :D
The composition scheme is frontally linear on objects the base, so quite simple and do not force You into the painting, while the whole shape is a triangle leading the sight to the rose on top.

i like the flower, delicate petals & vivid leaves

Excellent painting enchanter. The shading and is very well done and gives a fantastic feel for the objects texture!! Bravo ! Would have been nice to see the original of Tony Ryer. Tried to find it but i did not succeed.

One litte thing grabbed my view and did not let me loose. The side of the table is indicating for a more top view and fulfills the triangle composition Caesar mentioned, but the the opposite curvature of the vase's line indicate for an exactly frontal position of the viewer. Was this in the original the same way? It's not absolutely correct in a perspective sense but it builts up an very interesting effect !!

Nika: Thankyou very much :D

Belvrog: Thanks for yor comments.the vase I made up so i did not have a reference for the lighting and shape........I can see the perspective is a bit wonky .....I have done a WIP and posted the ref pic i used.

the ref pic i used

Thanks for posting the original and allowing us to have a look at your workflow. I hope you are ok with me mentioning the perspective. I thought it was your or the painters intention. Anyhow you have some possibilities for correcting it if you call it wonky. Either you could change the upper end of the vase to have about the same curvature as the lower end of the vase or you could change the table side to be almost horizontal.

Anyhow it's a wonderful painting and interpretation !!!!

Belvrog....no probs :D .........I welcome constructive critism.......I try and bear it mind when i paint the next picture.......I think i will leave it....since i put lots of time into it .

Nice demo.

Woah that's cool!
One crit tho, you have these nice sharp shadows under the larger fruits but the grape casts none - you might want to add castshadows on the right to tie the image together a bit more.
Also ... on the pears, you could add a hint of a sharp edge were shdow meets light, near the center of the mass. It is very apparent on the reference you used and helps making the fruit rendering coherent with the general lighting (top down), kindof defining the 'B' profile of the fuit since light hits it twice - one time at the top, one time at middle height. I know I'm not very clear ... I can make a quick mockup/paintover if you want. I like to call that effect the 'butt dimple trick' if you see what I mean :P

Nice still like, like your approach to blending colors to create realism.

11-24-2011, 10:38 AM
I see the horizon line as running through the top rim of the vase, the ellipse at the top of the jar is about 5%, which is cool. The ellipses at the bottom of the are a complex of transparent surfaces.
Your varied textures take my breath away.
Thank you for sharing.
