View Full Version : Starting out...

Hello all. This is my first babysteps into the scary world of Artrage (and drawing in general). Apart from some cartoon-stips I've made with PS CS2 this is my very first serious attempt at drawing.

It was made using only the oil brush with various settings on a standard canvas. I'm using a Wacom Graphire 4 (A5).
I'd like all kind of pointers on what could be improved (and how), and perhaps some ideas for future drawing tests.

You have some very cool effects going on there. That is the fun... playing and exploring the tools. Looks like you are off to a good start. Welcome.

It's apparent that you know where you want to go. This is a wonderful first effort. Hope you'll keep at it. :)

Thanks for the uplifting words, :)

I spent about 90 minutes today, tinkering with the crayon tool.
I knew I wanted to create some fluffy clouds and a peaceful sea, but apart from that I had a blank slate. I had initially envisioned a daytime setting, but as I added colour to the water and sky it seemed more "right" to change it into dusk.

Please tell me what you think, good AND bad. Perhaps PARTICULARLY bad since that will enable me to perfect the technique.

This has a finished, artsy feel. I like it.

You accomplished your goals very well I'd say. The clouds and waves are well rendered. :)

Yeah, good work. I like the textures. Has a look like an illustration for a kid's book or a magazine. Fun piece. :D
