trying to create depth as if entering thru a doorway, also from darkness to light. Comments appreciated

I think you will get more of the effect you are looking for if you bring the hallway effect closer to the door.

I took the liberty of downloading your painting and cutting off the sides to illustrate what I was saying.
See if this gives you more of the effect you want.
