View Full Version : Mountian Retreat
This is a second attempt to paint this picture. I happened to save my org. sketch for a overlay png. I had the cabin painted, door, stone chimney windows, window boxes, wagon wheel, around 60 or 70 flowers, the sky, rocks and shading then my pc crashed while trying to save it for another session.
I have changed the mountains from my sketch and I will add some more detail and highlights. I toned down the clouds for now. My red maple may or may not stay. The flowers will return, the stone chimney and the wagon wheel. I'm still pondering the foreground. :D

Wow! Looking fantastic. I vote FOR the red maple by the way. :)
Thanks : Caesar & Robert
I think you are right about the red it needs more colors and It will tie in with the flowers. I also planned on doing some snow caps and it will need warmed up with all the blue, green and white. I think I will change the light angle to creat more shadows to make the mountian faces more defined too.

Reminds me of a ranger station where this is an adjacent residence.
Idyllic. :D :D :D
Thanks D Akey
I actually did use some elements of the US Forest Service housing about 12 miles from my home, the green shutters door and basic cabin size, then some from a cabin a very nice old lady has were I buy worms for fishing , the flowers and windows boxes. The deck is a bit different. One of the three I built this spring, the guy wanted to keep the concrete steps. This pic has some of the basic things his does. His hand rails are white and I mortices them in to the posts, lattice and a painted rim board.
I had to remove the chimney but I repaint it and refinish the roof.

Very nice. :)
What about daring more on near-field shadows??
I haven't got to the shading and highlights yet. I still have some more objects to put in first.

It's very nice and I promise to be patiently overview the progress of this enjoyable "mandala" set-up.
Reworked the background a bit and added some shading so I can move to the front and continue.

Your avatar looks like he lives in this world you're creating. Similar colors, eh?
:D :D :D
That got a good laugh D. :D :D :D
They bolth only lived in my imagination before. Now I just need to imagine the world in there has other colors, shades, sateration and hues beyond my crayon box. That would be a quantum leap should it spill out on to a pic.
My wife said quit she like it this way.

I like the way it captures the way the colors of the outdoors just jump out at you in the mountains.
