I'm not sure if this has been done before but I thought it might be fun to start a thread with art celebrating the Mask Artistry for Mardi Gras parties or any masquerade event...
Here's the start for the 2011....also my first eyes...

A crazy and colorful event You painted effectively, dear gigi and that we use to call Carnevale since the ancient Roman times when it was already celebrated one insane day. They used to say semel in anno licet insanire, that is once a year is allowed to get crazy.
I would add this nice site for Your possible inspiration, full of marvellous Venetian Carnival (Carnevale) masks: http://www.google.it/images?hl=it&source=imghp&biw=1280&bih=607&q=maschere+veneziane&btnG=Cerca+immagini&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

Glad You appreciated the indication, dear Gigi.
The link with the masks I indicated is interesting, the masks colorful and artistic and and most of them were used since four centuries at least.
You'll discover Your masks and the rest are well in a very long tradition.
Carnevale and Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday or Marted́ Grasso, respectively in French, English or Italian) are practically the same . It is the last day of Carnival (Carnevale) period, where it lasts longer and the day before the Lent starts with what we call the Ashes Wednesday (when the fast period starts too, thus not fat anymore) ...

Having grown up in Rurual (and I mean Rural Arkansas) I had no concept of Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, or Lent/Fasting....whatsoever...It wasn't until I became a Catholic in 2006 that I learned of this at a ripe age of 26.
Now I have a more full appreciation of it though I have never truly experienced a Mardi Gras - I have however experienced Lent/Fasting and could/should make an artistic attempt at the humbling experience.
I found another sight that had other artistic masks a little too American for the experience of Mardi Gras but inspiring none the less. www.partyoasis.com (http://www.partyoasis.com)...
Up early this morning trying to do a collage of mask...we will see what the morning brings to the tablet....

I purchased ArtRage yesterday and already love it. I am very interested in making collages such as the one of masks but I do not know how to do this within the program. Could someone please point out some starters for me?
Thanks - sincerely
