Have been in a "have camera will travel skyward" mood lately and
thought you might care to view the collection.

I also just completed a painting (below) that I titled, "Starshine"
and in keeping with the title and "sky" theme, below is a song that I
almost forgot about but always enjoyed listening to. :)

Took this recent photo of a full moon. Was surprised at the
sharp detail the camera picked up. Did not want to mention
this but as soon as I snapped this photo, I could have sworn
I heard a wolf howling (gulp!) off in the distance!

Very nice collection.
Love the painting. Gives me the feeling of the beginning of a Walt Disney movie.
The photo of the moon is splendid! Who knew that Halloween had been moved to August??
Guessing you have a pretty nice camera, because the
amount of detail on the cloud picture is excellent.

Well done Mairzie.:)

barnburner,
What a gracious response, a sincere thank you! Not certain how
the painting, "Starshine" evolved, just went where the Palette knife
took me ... though think the darn thing is possessed because I had
no control. Who in Art Rage administration do I complain to??? ;) :D

Re: the "Full Moon" photo, think the cloud formation appears grainy,
must learn how to adjust settings, just hate to read instructions.
The texture seems to add to the somber ambiance so decided to
post it. Just love moody blue moons. :)

that clouds excite you as they do me, truly they do. Fleeting wind
gifts from the God's they are and what a thrill it is to capture their
brief essences in the form of an image so that their short lived visits
can be remembered with awe and delight. :)

Awoke early this morning at daybreak, made a cup of coffee, ventured
outside around 6:10 a.m. to access the weather, happened to glance
skyward and gee whiz, there it was, a guilded in gold crescent moon
smiling down at me.

Ran back into the house, grabbed my camera and took the below picture
hoping that the resulting image might accurately capture the enchanting
lunar appearance. Decided not to crop off the wide expanse of the dawn
sky. The simplicity of the delicate shading surrounding the moon seemed
to work though any suggestions would be well accepted. Please click on
the photo for a full view.

Out with camera in hand as I noticed this black speck of "something"
slowly circling under a high cloud. Snapped the photo and was quite
surprised when I discovered that I had captured an image of a Paragrine
Falcon in mid flight. In the research that ensued, found that in my state
Pennsylvania, this species is still considered "endangered" and to date
there are only a reported 2000 in existence here. What a thrill to think
that I had possibly taken a picture of falcon number one thousand, nine
hundred and ninety nine? Well maybe? ;)

Some interesting facts ~

Peregrine Falcon populations have undergone a remarkable turnaround. In
the early 1900s there were thousands of these birds nesting throughout
wild places in the United States. However, serious threats conspired to
undermine the stability of these populations. Persecution by humans and,
most crucially, the introduction of pesticides such as DDT contributed to
the severe decline of Peregrine numbers. By 1965 they were completely
extirpated in eastern North America.

Today, thanks to restrictions on the use of DDT, legal protection that
bans the persecution of raptors, and an immense reintroduction effort by
the Pennsylvania Game Commission and many others, Peregrine
populations have increased. Now these remarkable birds once again grace
Pennsylvania’s skies and may be seen nesting on building ledges and other
sites in urban settings, as well as at natural cliff sites. Peregrine Falcon
populations continue to recover, but are still in need of human assistance.

Paragrine Falcons are formidable hunters and hone in on their prey in mid
flight from as far as two miles away. After sighting their target, they drop
into a steep, swift dive that can top 200 miles an hour. Peregrines are
favored by "falconers" and have been used in that sport for many
centuries. :)

Below is my photo and following is a small, close up example of what this
stately feathered marvel looks like if he were to, let's say fly low over
your head  ... well maybe and ya never know! ;) :D :)

Some interesting Facts: (Do you care?)

Cumulus clouds are puffy and have distinct edges and signs of vertical
development. Vertical lift can be further enhanced by thermal convection
or push Cumulus clouds upward into a multi layer category (see below) to
form what is described as "Towering Cumulus" formations. :)

What a wonderful response, much appreciated and thank you. I have

in the last rather spookyfied storm image that I posted, ( I was
temporally bitten by the Halloween bug!) the summer "cloud" theme
may become a little redundant though in your honor I will submit one

SCP,
If the truth be known, I actually like the song that I included with the
storm cloud image more than the photo. It's hilarious and what a set
of vocal chords "Screaming Jay Hawkins" has. Think I just might give
"I Put a Spell On You" another play as I type this. It really keeps me

you must admit, that brief sax accompaniment is to die for.

coops,
I have collected many beautiful sky photos so far but vowed not to post
additional cloud images because I did not want this thread to become
redundantly overtaxed with poofy white things but yesterday when I
noticed this particular cloud mountain formation I was momentarily stunned
with it's majesty of structure. Grabbed my camera and ran, literally ran
with hopes to capture the amazing sight before it was gone. The "castle"
(as I poeticize it) formation at the top was really there and if you look
closely, there seems to be yet another domed structure beginning to form
on the right of the taller one. Two castles in the sky ??? ... what more
could a dreamer ask for.

As always, a sincere thank you for your thoughtful response. :)

Dear Lee,
Not certain why but it seems as if these unique cloud formations,
instead of me seeking them out are in fact finding me and speaking
of finding ... ran outside with camera yesterday (the sky was calling
to me!) and there she was again, waiting for me on the porch. This
little "visitor" started showing up at my home about two weeks ago
now ... have no idea where she came from. All of the sudden she
appears, either napping on the corner of the porch or wanting to
play. So friendly she is, very petite and feminine, reminding me of a
fragile Egyptian statue. She isn't a remarkable cloud image but has
certainly seemed to breeze in like one. :)

Your wonderful comments are most appreciated, many thank you's. :)

Was lucky to have noticed this cloud encircled full moon last night.
The shadowing on the moon's surface is due to cloud cover. The
image is titled, "Claire De Lune." :)

Was out chasing moonbeams the other night ... it was hazy and overcast
but had decided to take a photo of the almost cloud covered full moon
anyway, if only to justify my reason for being out there in the dead of
night with only an occasional chirping cricket for company.

The interesting result is below. Even though it certainly is the moon,
the muted cloud formation that covered the lunar globe diffused the
planet's appearance and if one would allow one's imagination to soar,
the unique formation might appear similar to the ancient symbol of the
Egyptian God Ra. The moon, just for a moment, taking on the appearance
of a sun god in antiquity? An illusion? Could be ... but poetically speaking
... anything could be possible! :)

SCP,
If the truth be known, I actually like the song that I included with the
storm cloud image more than the photo. It's hilarious and what a set
of vocal chords "Screaming Jay Hawkins" has. Think I just might give
"I Put a Spell On You" another play as I type this. It really keeps me
WIDE AWAKE  like no other tune does ... (I wonder why?) and
you must admit, that brief sax accompaniment is to die for.

When you mentioned "Watercolor Sky" as appearing "fluid" I took another
look and your description really fits. It does have a fluid quality to it.
Thank you for responding so positively. :)

Great Song! Your right about the Sax solo.:cool::cool::cool:

Mr. Bluebird's on my shoulder
It's the truth, it's actual
Everything is satisfactual
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Wonderful feeling, wonderful day!

Gee whiz, after singing "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" why am I now hungry for a
banana and peanut butter sandwich? I must be easily influenced! :D

What a sweetheart Salem is and those eyes and little pink tongue, too
cute for words and speaking of kitty's, wasn't going to post this but
was out cloud watching with camera recently and OHHHHMYYYYYGOSH,
that cloud formation looks just like a kitty cat I screamed! (to myself!)
Snapped the picture and after viewing it, I then convinced myself that I
was not just seeing things ... that cloud really resembles a kitty, though
humongous enough to make a "Fancy Feast" snack out of yours truly.
(metaphorically speaking of course. ;)) Thought you might enjoy seeing
this photo but ... if you smell like catnip ... RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! :D ;) :)

When you mentioned "inspirational" it made me think of a photo
that I took only yesterday. Happened to notice a massive cloud
formation, zoomed in and hoped for a dramatic result but when
I viewed the image, could not help but notice a strange but
interesting structure that appeared much like a wisp, a breath
of a spirit that almost, well, seemed to be ... dancing! A trick

Dear Lee,
What a lovely response a sincere thank you! :) I am never completely
happy with what I create and "Midnight Strut" is no different. You may
not notice but I changed the size and position of the crescent Moon
and just posted the revised version. The original Moon was larger and
in a bit of a rigid, strait up and down position. The "new moon" is smaller
and has a flirty tilt, an indication that it is swaying along to the rhythm
of the Guitar music. (Metaphorically speaking of course!) The painting
now also has a better visual balance to it. We certainly would not want
that lunar blue upstart taking center stage in this production because
that spectacular strummin' Sun is the lead player in this midnight musical
gala ... so there! ;) :)

Thank you for responding so favorably! :) The truth be known, was
on my way outside Tuesday night and about to drag the garbage can
to the top of the driveway for refuse pick up the next morning. It was
a hazy night, not even the stars could be seen in the sky but noticed
the moon shining through the trees in a wooded lot across the street
from my home and wondered if the nocturnal scene could be captured
on camera. Ran back into the house, grabbed my camera, ran outside,
aimed, and "Moon Shadows" is the result. Am pleased to know that

Rowena,

Santa brought me a new Canon camera for Christmas and yes, I am
using only this one for all of my photos including the previous

Happened to glance out of my kitchen window at dawn this morning
and saw the moon, awe inspiring it was as it played tag with the
last embracing shadows of the night while being affectionately kissed
by sun's first light. A fine lunar dilemma she was in as she gingerly
waltzed it's confused presence between the fast fading indigo darkness
and the first shimmering light of day.

Below is the magic moon that bade me a brave but resolute farewell as
I focused in on the amazing scene. So near in my lense this magnificent
presence was and yet ... so far away. I was just reminded of a lovely
romantic song ... does anyone out there like Carole King? :)

SCP.
A sincere thank you for enjoying the images. :) As soon as Caesar
mentioned UFO's I immediately thought of one of my favorite movies,
"Mars Attacks" and featured song, "Indian Love Call" by Slim Whitman.
Every time I hear that song it brings me to my knees laughing, just
love it. I then decided to use one of my cloud photos and create a
flying saucer based on the movie theme.

If you recall, when "Love Call" was played in one of the scenes, Slim's
high notes where waaaay too much for the Martian's noggins and the
earthlings were saved.

Every time this movie reappears on T.V. I must again watch it. It is
one of the funniest movies I have ever seen and that song ... oh that
one of a kind, grey matter rattling song! :D

Below is the resized cloud photo in it's original form ... before those
dastardly Martian's invaded it ... (thanks to Caesar's invitation.) ;) :D :)

Really beautiful shots Mair it is always a pleasure to come here and view them all. Really taken with your morning moon shot looks marvelous:):)

mannafig,
It is always a pleasure to receive your lovely comments, thank you! :)

Last evening I witnessed a most spectacular sunset ... the lighting,
textures and colors continued to change every minute or so and I did
my best to capture a representation of sky's blazing evening sunset
as it seemed to be celebrating the end of September in one last fire-
burst of expressive revelry. Here's hoping that you enjoy the lofty
chromatic curtain being drawn on what was otherwise, a grey rainy
day. :)

my thread and ALSO happens to have as a pet ... a flesh eating alien bull

An absolutely delightful Twilight image for colors and texture indeed, dear Mary Ann! :):):):):)
Certainly more peacefull than the gorgoeusly flaming clouds at sunset ... or were it an image of what You were feeling due to anothe affectionate little bite of the alien flesh eating bull-canoides? :D

SCP,
You are an artist after mine own heart in also appreciating the wild and
crazy movie, "MARS ATTACKS." When I posted my U.F.O. loose tribute
to the film, did not want to also title it "Mars" then thought of the
famous burger franchise ad that mentions, "Mac Attack." Since "MAC"
is also my Art Rage nickname bestowed upon me by one of our noted
honorable members, RobertSWade, I then decided to title my painting ...
"MAC ATTACKS."

A fond thank you for your lovely response! :)

I know today is Monday and not Sunday as the below song lyrics indicate
but ...... no matter what the day or weather, the Sun always shines in
Art Rage and just love this steamy organ rendition of "Groovin'."

Dear Caesar,
Your positive response is more than gracious, thank you! :) ... and
after a "meaty" meal of Mair I was wondering if your ornery alien pit
bull friend might have room for an after dinner treat though he will
have to be a high jumper to partake in these puffy delights. ;)

This lofty metaphorical snack below is titled, "Jiffy Pop Sky." :)

Below is an impressive sky that I witnessed as I was leaving
my office, late afternoon and happened to have the camera
in my purse. The sun was still shining but it was getting dark,
it was windy, rain was on it's way and the heaven's were
obviously in a confused, emotional state resulting in a rather
gloriously moody cloud display.

The title is, "Melodrama in Motion." Hope you like it! :)

JOSEPHINE.EARP,
Gee what a nice compliment to think that you would consider using
some of the images for references. Since the sky is the limit, the
source of all inspirations are boundless I suspect. Thank you for the
kind response. :)

Did anyone ever tell you that your sense of humor is sooooo refreshing?
Well if they haven't ... I will! What fun you are and as the song lyrics
go ....

When you're smilin' ~
Keep on smilin' ~
The whole world smiles with you ~

If there ever was a poem that had been written about blue sky's and
sunshine, today would have been just the kind of zippity-doo-dah day
that might have been the inspiration because as someone once said ...

"My oh my ... what a wonderful day!" :)

of it's summer leaves, once green but now displaying warm,
autumn shades of ... Ovaltine? What a trooper! ;) :)
