I thought it would be fun to see the people behind the artworks. So feel free to post a photo of yourself here.
This is me, trying as always to find the prince.

Hi Cwm,

Spookily like my mental picture of you!
I think you could stroll through most of Scandinavia and be taken as a local.

Every time I look in the mirror to shave I see my avatar, so I won't bother doing a photo! :D
I get taken for German, Belgian or Dutch when I'm in Europe.

Phil, my Mother's people are from Denmark & Sweden...the rest of me is French though. Did you paint the avatar yourself?
sleepless, (I can relate to that name!), very artistic photo. Good to see you.
Selby, I always wondered if your avatar was you...beautiful.
sweeneymini, uhuh, just the jacket ...(kidding), good to see you! The countryside in that photo would make a lovely painting.

Enchanter, "theek hai?" means "is it ok?" or "is it fine?" So yeh, that'd be the one to use. I am not familiar with the other phrase. lol, thank you for your compliment. I'm dreading having to wear socks all the time when I move to a colder climate. =) Ya, the kitten was a total sweetheart. I found him just outside a pub in the middle of the night. He was just four weeks old, and would have doubtless perished. I brought him home with me and bathed and fed him. Unfortunately, I'm severely allergic, so I was pretty miserable for the duration of his stay with me, but I kept him long enough to find him a nice home.

cym- This is a fun thread, thanks for starting it. It's nice to put faces with the personalities. My avatar is a photo of me. I don't wear reading glasses all the time (nor a hat in this recent heat) but I liked the photo a bit. When it isn't too hot I've been wearing hats quite a bit while my hair grows back out. I had it long for years and cut it short about six years ago. It's time for long again (I don't know why so don't ask).

I'll post a larger more typical photo when I get a moment to dig one up.

Sweedie...glad you liked it. I was a bit hesitant in posting it.

This however brings me to a suggestion for the Art Projects forum...."Paint your fellow ArtRager". I don't know if it should be a free for all and anyone paints anyone else or if every two weeks would be a featured ArtRage artist where everyone paints just that person. Any thoughts?

I guess the only rule would be if you paint someone else you have to be willing to be painted as well. Which I've already brocken because I haven't yet posted a picture. I've been looking for a recent picture but all of our pictures are of our 19 month old daughter...who is admittedly much prettier than I. I'd post an older picture but my hair has turned mostly white over the past couple of years!

Fashmir looks such a nice young chap when he loses the chappeau.

The white beard, glasses and suspicious baldness hiding hat adds several decades I think. And it looks like he has a full head of hair. So the avatar disguise is working.

Nonetheless, the brilliant soul that we see in his postings comes through moreso in that group of shots.

In the other meaning of the word, isn't an avatar supposed to show brilliance when revealed rather than in one's usual look, which is the disguise aspect?

Oh well.

I'm bald, and it made pictures quite impossible. Could never find a strong enough polarizing filter to cut down the glare. I walk into the room and it's like 2001 (cue: Also Sprach Zarathustra). I've taken to wearing hats even to bed. Only fair to my sleep deprived wife.

My avatar is my self-portrait in two of my aspects, depending on the position of the moon and planets. Was painted in ArtRage, too.

This isn't the greatest picture. I was trying to get comfortable on a bunk on a wagon-lit going from Toulouse, France back to Paris, a seven hour trek. Sleeping on a slab in a moving train is not conducive to sleeping.

Hi Bobbi!

You're intrepid, I must say. Looks like you're more than making the best of it.

I spy a net below your head. Are you in a hammock?

Bobbi
06-10-2007, 01:50 PM
I am laying on my side on a slab bunk. The net was to put your small belongings so they wouldn't go flying around the small cabin. There were six of those bunks. Five of us were crammed into a room the size of a closet. If you were the least bit claustrophobic it would have been dicey. I had been in Toulouse visiting with my step mom and sisters. My travel companions met up with me there and it was recommended we take a sleeping compartment. I think we would have been better off in regular seats. Seven hours on that slab with a swaying train that made a lot of stops was not good for sleeping. None the less, it was a fun experience.

What are we celebrating? Let's get some glasses.

The flowers and champagne I would expect. But no doggie? Not enough champagne for him anyway with all your friends here. He'll have to content himself with chewing on a shoe.

Now that I know there is a dog there, the image is complete. Like your signature.

Don't he drink champagne now? Not even out of a lady's shoe before he chews on it?

More a beer n' pretzels kinda pup is he now? So's he be a regular kinda mut -- one after me own heart.

Hi Thirsty Eye.

Question about color in clothes in desert areas. Aside from symbolic meaning, is there any truth to one color being cooler than another?

I heard that white reflects the sun more, and black absorbs it more. But both colors are common in hot climates.

Have you heard anything about color in respect to keeping one cooler?

Nice seeing you by the way.

Thanks. I am blushing :)

D Akey

This is the formal clothing. Yes. The white reflects the sun of the desert. The black is not as common as the white. The white is undoubtfully cooler than dark colors. That's why we dress in white most of the year. Only in a part of the country people wear black 'thobes' during winter, usually not more than 50 days.

It is getting very hot nowadays :(

Thanks all.

Ciao (Hello) Thirsty Eye,
You would certainly deserve portraits from ArtRagers also because it may allow some exotic flavour idea or scenario as background keeping Your traditional clothes! There's only a little problem though with the picture. Your eye is covered so it's missing a key element of Your personality or "the mirror of the soul", as we say, for resemblance.
In any case a side view/ profile could be devised, like in early Renaissance portaits.
Furtherly, since You are from Saudi Arabia I understand, did You really mean seriously You would like a portrait or was it a joke? Just to be sure, in case, You (or other people around You) would not consider it "culturally unappropriate".

I will search for another pic to post here. I like this picture so much, though. It gives me the feeling of contemplating...

There was times of madness with the two, wallpaper being taken down strip by strip. Cupboards broken into, potatoes, spongs, toilet paper, lay on the floor in there wake. Baby locks and baby gates at times could not hold them. But i love them and laughed it off, and reenforced my efforts to stop them. It was almost like a chess match, now that they are 13 and 12 and there just to tried to make the next move :)

it was my ex's idea to get the second one ... i kept the dog

she even named him Poky, it was fitting for both of them lol

one dog ( flash ) is too smart, if could get the can opener on the floor, he could have had some cramberry sauce with the potatoes :)

the other one (poky) was 1 of 10 puppies and the brains was not passed down to him, but he's loveable and sticks to my daughter like glue.

they are two sides of the coin ( but both full of spirt )

Thank you, D Akey... right now I'm just playing around with digital. It's fun to play with everything!!!

Here are two pics of mine; both were taken the last summer when I was in the UK. The first was taken on the entrance to Bodiam Castle while the second was on the Hastings seafront , somewhere north of Hastings. Memories!

Thanks for your kind words. You are flattering me :$ I am not that handsome, but I do look much younger than how old I am.

One esp dedicated to AR! :) You also are a very handsome man and congrats on getting to 51 years... I can't say I will make that one! Way to GO! I'm a native New Yawker and I used to live in Westchester and my grandparents in the Bronx... :) I used to go to Brooklyn now and then and of course, Long Island!

Hi TE,

Handsome lad that you are. . .

Based on your paintings and comments, I don't often think of you in such a moist climate. You look natural in it as well as I'm sure you do in the arid regions.

I too would like to visit the UK one day, and Saudi Arabia for that matter.

I'm afraid I don't do too well with heat though -- very sensitive to my health. So I would have to visit Saudi Arabia in winter. But I can enjoy it through your paintings.

Rick, I know it well. My ex works in Syosset and I lived in Smithtown and the Islips... before moving to Florida. I used to take the LIE to work every day. Was lots of fun, NOT! :)

Dear Ali and Rick(s). Glad to have seen You in "unformal" everyday's life situations!! After a period of ArtRage post exchanges it seems to me to be almost looking at pictures of some far away relative! :)
